I played the first movement of this as part of my auditions for music college. It has been many years since then and I don't play anymore, but hearing this still fills me with all the emotions and passion that I felt when I played it.

Listened to this work many times on CD, but it's not until you actually see it being played that you realise how much physical energy it requires. A fine performance by these two musicians.

When you think of all that Prokofiev has lived through and must express, I can't think of any other cellist who can bring out these feelings as fully as Sol Gabetta. All compliments to Polina Leschenko to keep up with her. Wonderful performance by the two of them.

I feel like the page-turner is the Western classical music equivalent of the tamboura player in North Indian classical music. Their main job is to be invisible in plain sight. Excellent job, page-turner! I hardly noticed you were there, and when I did, it was the camera's fault, not yours.

1st movement. Good. Normal. 2nd movement. Interesting for cellists no doubt but I'm not one and I always used to switch off a bit. Not this timr. though. Fast. Exuberant. Wonderful. 3rd movement I'm not bothered how this excellent movement is played. Here it's fast. That's fine. Very nice. The performance is the best I've ever heard of this work. I know that this two women are very good playing their respective instruments, but sorry, the only word it comes to me when I hear them playing this piece is "chaos". Ritmically very caprichious, too rustic (when the cello plays the pizzicati I hear only noise) and a very unpleasant cello sound, rigid and pressed (easy to see the muscles of Ms. Gabetta very tense). It seems also that they didn't rehearse enough together the piece. Sorry, not good for me.
@donnewmeyer31334 жыл бұрын
I disagree on every point. I’m a cellist, and I hear a magnificent sound. It’s a capricious work, and these players are stylistically sensitive.
