Z was originally made for the purpose of serving as an engineer. She never fit in with the other drones because of her red color-scheme, making her almost like a packet of ketchup among the mustard, but M was introduced to her life, a charismatic and green drone, and they immediately paired together due to being colored outcasts.
Z and M bonded over their love of engineering. They would spend hours talking about out their engineering dreams and feed eachother's inspiration everyday. They had a natural chemistry and their friendship grew from there. One day they were put together as a squad for a mission, due to their expertise in engineering and their proficiency in handling high-stakes tasks. They were tasked with exploring a highly valued exoplanet that JcJenson wanted for its resources. But due to the conditions on the planet being too harsh for humans, they sent the two outcasts as guinea pigs instead.
The planet had conditions that were too harsh for humans, which is why they were sent as a test run. Despite the high stakes, Z and M were excited about the opportunity to prove themselves to the company and make a name for themselves, so they embraced the challenge.
But during the mission, they were pulled into the gravitational field of a larger rogue exoplanet, killing M from the impact of their crash. The ship was crushed due to the gravity and Z survived thanks to one of her inventions, a small artificial gravity system that neutralized the crushing gravitational pull of the planet. But Z was left crushed by the loss. She was devastated by M's death, but her personality led her to bottle up her emotions and turn bitter. She tried to cope with the loss by focusing all her energy on her work, but the pain and grief was always just below the surface, hence why she became short-tempered, unable to cope with the grief.
