Their reactions show how different the world is. People tend to forget what we think is normal is actually vastly different in other countries. When I was in Afghanistan a lot of local tribal people had no idea why we were there. They never heard about 9/11 so all they saw was the US military coming in and with no context to why they had a bad impression. Some thought we were simply invading. That completely changed my mindset on a lot of things.

Hello Stephanie , i really liked your response , made me happy thanks for saying so. Daesh are renegades we call Khwarij. Essentially they are the secularists within the religion i.e religious secularists. This is because the majority of mu'slims follow schools of thought which was developed during the first 300 years of Islam. They reject following any of these four schools of thought and decide instead to be literalist interpreters of Qu'ran and Hadith which is dangerous thing to do as it breeds real ignorance. For example bin laden in an interview was asked that the prophet(saw) hadith says we can not kill innocent civilians and anyone who commits suicide goes to hell and so think of one who kills innocent blood whilst also killing him/herself - what a punishment that individual has in wait for them. Bin laden to the question over innocent people being killed responded by saying - yes that it is true what the prophet(saw) said that but because the west kills indiscriminately our innocents we are allowed thus to kill theirs. So in short his idea and all of those who follow other extremists groups base their ideology not on Islam but on their own reasonings which is secularism of thought and action.

@@markemerson8399 Re: how much responsibility society should take for rehabilitating criminals: I think all, society should take all responsibility for rehabilitating criminals. Either offer that, or you've no right to punish them in the first place. Like, in an ideal world, if you insert yourself into a situation, you've taken on the responsibility of dealing with it fairly and equally, with the same standards for everyone. You're claiming to be the authority that knows the "correct path," making decisions in the best interests of the rest of us. And then, where is the line between criminals and the rest of us? Humans are humans, and if we're going to attempt to regulate human behavior, we probably should be regulating it for the best in the case of each individual, whether they are "criminals" or not, if it seems we want to establish a duty to "help." Help one, help everyone, regardless of the origin of the need for help. I think we see that, and that we might be abandoning "helping" by enforcing the death penalty, which is why Americans give those sentenced a last meal- to assuage our own guilt that we failed to help everyone.

This Canadian totally agrees with both Chaudhary Rafique's and Gul Sher Khan's comments and beliefs on this topic. Seen through the eyes of others, the western justice system seems bizarre. Canada de-facto abolished the death penalty in Jan. 1963. Also, it may be noted that a number of the murderers presented were afflicted with a variety of mental illnesses and psychoses. I believe that the practice of giving death row inmates a "last meal" has it's origins in Christian principles of extending humanity to all human beings, regardless of crime, but it was not a deference to the criminal, but rather a balm of sorts to society in that a person was being killed officially under government sanction; a lot of early prisons had influence from Christian churches in how they were run and how inmates were treated in general, since conditions were very poor indeed, which was seen as un-Christian. In the U.S.A., 22 states have abolished the death penalty, 25 still have the death penalty and use it regularly, and 3 are Governor-imposed-moratorium states. Interestingly, some studies show that a possible death sentence is less of a deterrent to committing certain crimes than a sentence of being jailed for natural life is. It is thought that the idea of a permanent lack of freedom holds less appeal than death for some individuals. This seemed a bit of a dark topic for our fine fellows....

The meal is not for the prisoner. It is a way for the executioners to feel they did something humane and Christian for the person they were about to kill. Just my opinion. I think these men are lovely people.

My dads best friend gave John Wayne Gacy (the clown killer) a ride when he was hitchhiking from the airport in Chicago back in the 70’s. He said about a couple weeks later he saw him on the news and immediately recognized him!

As an avid reader of the psychology of these disturbed people, it surprised me how John got away with it for so long and how close they came to catching him initially. He didn't dress as a clown to kill people, as they say in this video though. I wish they'd give them the full articles to look at and read over so they fully understand the crimes committed and how screwed up the murderers were. Ps: I'd say your dad's best friend got off lucky

@Dadadada before calling someone stupid, you could at least make a google search on the matter. here's an excerpt from the pakistan today news site “The Pakistani government did not amend or repeal blasphemy law provisions. The death penalty is mandatory for blasphemy, and 40 people remained on death row as of late 2020,” the report said." As per ICC, two Christian nurses were charged with blasphemy for allegedly scratching a sticker from Quran in a Civil Hospital. in January a Christian cleric, Pastor Raja Warris was charged with blasphemy charges over a Facebook post. Although Warris later removed the said post and apologised, however, police still filed blasphemy charges against him for “deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.”

First of all don't call them animals, it's disrespectful because animals are innocent but these people are not. To answer your question, people say It is an act of kindness, to give the condemned some degree of choice in what will be virtually his last action in this life. Also, it is a symbolic demonstration that the upcoming execution is not merely an act of vengeance, intended to impose the maximum possible suffering on one who is about to die.

Fun Fact: Last meals have somewhat been used less in the states due to criminals requesting excessively large amounts of food just to spite the prison system. In Texas, last meals are no longer served because one person requested "A bowl of fried okra with ketchup, two chicken steaks with gravy and onions, a cheese omelette with ground beef, jalapenos and bell peppers, a triple-meat bacon cheeseburger, three fajitas, one pound of barbecue, a half loaf of white bread, meat lover's special pixxs, one pint of 'homemade vanilla' Blue Bell ice cream, a slab of peanut butter fudge with crushed peanuts, and three root beers." Most states these days have a rule saying that the request must be reasonable while some others have gotten rid of it completely.
