I was driving past an industrial estate one weekend years back and saw a rough looking maroon Mk 3 estate going like the clappers driving about. Pulled up and flagged him down when he passed. He had put in an RS Turbo engine with mods. I had a load of fast Fords and asked if I could jump in for a blast and he was like yeah jump in. It even had a ladder on the roof 😁.

Big up to lewis for running it every day and on low boost .As everyone wants mega boost and undriveable car now a days.

I’ve always wanted to build an RS or 1600i Estate, they’re really cool, never got round to it… Respect for using it year round in the crap English climate, I would remove the cage and fit head restraints, same as the fronts, to the rear bench to “balance” the interior. Cracking car👍👍👍👍👍

One of my pals had a escort turbo he had it in bits for years it had been fully build for track days at one point so it had some trick stuff done to it but it was going back to more of a road car. I remember his dad taking me out after it had been for some tuning done it kept over boosting really bad pulling all over the place. We got back and he gave the keys to his son and the car came back on a recovery truck with the engine pushed up into the front windscreen and bulkhead my pal had 2 broken wrists and trip to the hospital. He said a sprinter van pulled out on him when he hit boost and it by the time he could get on the breaks and clutch he was in the side of it. No abs we could see the skid marks he left from hitting boost and then the breaks. What a car I will never forget that one.

I had a Mk 4 Escort Estate that I converted to RS Turbo. Essentially same body as this one. They never built a combi van in this Mk3 shape, only in the Mk4 - and I think the rear side windows were actually complete rear quarters rather than just slot in panels. This RS Turbo upgrade was very common in the 90's with so many original RS crashed or nicked then written off. I did a complete shell up rebuild on mine from a smashed up RS that i bought. Everything just fitted in place, think the hardest part was extending the wiring to the rear lights as the estate is obviously longer than the hatchback and even that was pretty easy. Even managed to sell off my old 1.3 engine and box to a mate. Went like stink compared to the 1.3 but I just lowered it and kept it standard ish looking as the RS body kit off the Donar was smashed up anyway.

Im glad I got into these types of cars. When i was younger i only liked Japanese and thats it but now i like all sorts of cars except for most modern German cars

He got a brand new ford mk3 escort LAZER estate shell(only mk3 estate to get a FFS)and also had tinted windows in the rear.even got a proper shark grey headliner made up using the original one and had a rear part made up so it looked right.he sold car and then reappeared not long ago then went on ebay. The nova used to be a lad called Davey Dixons car had it years!

About 15 year ago - i had a mk3 purple escort estate with a blended rattlesnake body kit... (i believe one of the first to come out) it started life as a diesal. We swapped it for the xr3 cvh, put a twin webber on it but kept the diesal gearbox. Jesus Christ the acceleration! ! - Sadly it topped at a 100 and at 60mph you were sitting at 3krpm lol... sadly rust killed it. I had a crack on the bulk head running half way through.
