I mean yeah it COULD be serral, but in all honesty zerg has been dominant for a long time. Even after a ton of nerfs they're still dominant. I think the outlier is the race here, not the players.

If people wanted to train and practice with Zerg, they could theoretically reach Serrals level, but they chose Terran or Protoss. Zerg has a high advantage, if you have the high skill to take advantage. Which you could argue is unfair, but Serral is an outlier. You don't nerf the entire race, because one person is able to dominate. Protoss has a much lower skill cap, and Terran has a higher skill cap. You might as well advocate for nerfing Korean players. It makes the same amount of sense.

Year that was Serrals strongest performance yet. Its just crazy how good he is when you look at his unit movement, his ability to give every action that happens just enough attention it needs. People are screaming now from all corners that zerg is op, but (as Harstem recently said) Serral is just an outlier, he is in a league of his own right now. Personally i am sure, if Serral were to play Protoss, he would be just as OP, because (save for Max Pax) we dont have a Protoss player right now that even gets close to Serrals skilllevel, be it mechanically or tactically. @@DarsusD

Yeah but why use mobile detection when you have instant, unlimited range and uncounterable detection ? Scan is too powerfull, nerf the scan and we'll see ravens.

​@TyphoonJig here is the thing , and i am not saying anything about how powerful the scan is, but the scan is not all perfect , needs energy and to be correctly used and as we saw this game a pixel short of the right spot and the scan is useless. I think lowko's point is just too good , maybe the terrans became too dependant on the scans and yeah might be because how good they are , but just because something is played in a certain way at the moment doesnt mean the other option is not viable , and i think for how the game went the mobile free detection would have made a difference

SC2 is a good game but it's death to RTS genre. It's too complex. Casuals want to look around with WASD and spend all their time controlling army instead of macroing. That's what casuals want. As long as we cater to RTS fans RTS will remain niche as heck.

@@F4c2a I largely agree with you. I haven't played SC2 in probably 10 years or so, but I still enjoy watching high-level games for the sake of entertainment and nothing else. When I say "masterpiece", I just mean it's really well designed, almost as an art form. It is incredibly difficult, and for that reason, it will remain a niche game

Saw your comment in the live-stream. o/ Serral is about to leave for military service, and IIRC Dark is going to the military too, so SC2 will see another year of Terran dominance with the likes of Maru, Clem, Cure, ByuN, Oliviera, etc. still in, just like we saw 1 season ago, during the 2022-2023 season. SC2 players have short memories 🙂

Just a reminder - Terran has no ground turret / defence - putting marines in bunker equal to less attacking army. The same with Raven. It cost 2 supply. Overseer doesn't cost supply. Zerg player can have as many overseer they want. The more Raven you have, the less army you can own. The less army you have, the worse the engagement you have. Terran also need medivac because they don't auto heal unlike zerg ( or protoss shield). This also lead to less army, which lead to worse engagement.

Ravens do not hard counter infestors... they are just detector-spellcasters. They need attacking units to kill the infestor.

Threat of neural is a good reason not to make too many or to fly a raven w/ max energy into a fight, but it's probably still worth it to have one raven available for spot detection, especially early on when orbital energy is better saved for other things. If nothing else you can just place auto-turrets (which AFAIK can't be neuraled anyway) whenever your raven gets 50 energy to make sure any neural is more or less a waste of energy. IMO ravens actually get _less_ useful in late game v Zerg (e.g. 20min+) when Terrans have what Lowko calls the Iron Bank (7+ orbitals) and start pushing out with mass missile turrets.

There's absolutely zero way, ZERO way, Zerg would win a professional match ever again without queens. If queens got removed or even changed to only shoot at ground units, any Toss or Terran pro would auto-win against Zerg by just rushing out an Oracle or a Banshee. Banelings are less critical, but still pretty important to Zerg strategy. The real issue here is Protoss isn't quite strong enough and Terran is a bit too strong. Another balance patch is needed to buff Toss a bit more and nerf Terran a bit more. Serral is about to head to the military in April for the next year anyway, so nerfing Zerg for him specifically would be a waste of time and just lead to more Terran dominance.

Yeah, I was just being hyperbolic about the queens and banelings. But I see everyone complain about "Zerg's too imba, look at Serral winning," and get annoyed. It sure will be interesting when he has to leave for military service, and whether anyone outside of South Korea can compete!
