Very cool! My 2 are suggestions are... add a 5-10 gallon container of water in the bed, plumb a hose from it with a valve where you can reach it from the ground to clean your hands etc. 2nd is buy the largest bottle of saline solution you can find, to flush out any contaminates that get in your eyes. They have an irrigating tip, so you only have to pop the top and wash your eyes out.

For those of you who may have not noticed, the wheels on the truck were recently spray painted hence the rag being stuff in there to not get over spray on the rotors or calipers. Sure it was just for the vid lol

Nice, I am a professional welder. I dig the truck, I only dabble in engine repair, but cool to see how your truck is put together. I dig the TopKick. My favorite welding rig in my family is an older Top Kick C70. I'll be rolling around in it eventually. Has a CAT 3126 installed.

I find that drawers are extremely helpful. I’d almost have every cabinet have drawers in them. I hate looking deep inside the cabinet where you can barely see what you got.

I know the struggle of those drawers sliding out on you i only use toolboxes (since I think the price of drawer system are crazy for what you get). I can outfit my whole truck with toolboxes for the price of one drawer system. Although I did have to hack a few lol. Still working well though.

Just a little advise on properly using snap gauges 16:53 for an accurate ID measuring is to put them in at a slight angle and just tighten the lock screw enough that it will hold position but not fully expand then rock them past the point of perpendicular to the bore which you will feel then snug up that lock and measure them. Just a helpful hint for those who have never seen or used them before.

I've seen a ton of service truck tours and one thing I noticed is that no one carries a portable canopy to work under. I live in the PNW and I use equipment everyday in my job working on roads. I'm not a mechanic, but it seems to me if you were forced to work on equipment in the pouring rain or snow, you'd want to take the minute or so to set up a canopy. I know some equipment would be too big to use one, but still would be nice to work under if you could.

I am guessing that they are working on stuff that is too large for a canopy. They are in BC so are in your neck of the woods.

Not a bad idea, I bought a mobile canopy/gazebo for just that purpose but never use it as it takes too long to set up.

A canopy only fits sometimes, takes up alot of space on the truck and in my case the wind took it before I could get the tie points down. I use a beach unbrella and its eaiser to jam in somewhere and move around with you as needed

HVAC supply houses almost always carry a cheap magnetic umbrella setup, Which is honestly shit for working on ac units because the metal flexes and the magnet pops off. But on a machine, I'm sure it would be the shit. Make your own mag base for a pipeliners cloud, and you'd be golden.

Why over here in the uk most fitters have ford transit high tops or equivalent vans so you can stand inside out the rain and work on components, on the smaller vans and the electric company grp utility body pickups which is our equivalent of a service body a one peice lifting tailgate that forms a canopy to work under is preferred.

A 'snap gauge' is actually an inside micrometer. Nice size truck, probably could use some foldable running boards because the truck is so high off the ground, if you did that you could add more usable space for tools. - Definitely a very messy and inefficient toolbox though, Shawn must waste heaps of time finding the right spanners, When I used to have a service truck we would always have the middle space uncovered because we carried 200l drums, large panels, parts, tyres, etc.
@blackfootmechanical5413
@blackfootmechanical5413 Жыл бұрын
Technical term is a telescoping gauge. They're not inside mics. A bit different.

Not sure if dog houses are more common in Canada but we don’t run them.. I am curious (because I actually like them) can you take the top off in order to bring large cylinders and pumps like I can in a regular crane truck service truck? That would be the only down side I could see… also very surprised how little tools are on the truck seems like mostly consumables and lighting gear very interesting .. our guys usually run one side tools plus bumper then opposite side consumables and welding, cutting torch, fabrication… I’ll hopefully have my truck tour up this weekend if anyone is interested i am no KZfaqr but like these tours and would like to see what people think of my setup and if they have advise for ways to improve it.. by the way take my tool comment back looks like you crammed a lot in those two little boxes !
