This air dryer also cools down the air. It is top of the line and most expensive from haldex. The other " upgrades" are actually cheaper versions and does not have the cooling option wich helps to lower the dew point.

Wow, yours was super clean compared to mine. Someone was not doing regular maintenance on poor Malachai. You got lucky as far as I am concerned!

Yeah after seeing others folks videos. I figure I got lucky on this truck.

Have you looked at swapping to a different Haldex drier? Seems like a lot of LMTV owners do. PS: You can tell it is cold if Chad is not wearing flip flops.

I will eventually, but this one is still working. As the saying goes. “If it an’t broke, fix it till it is!” :)

Great job Chad. Really appreciate the time you’re putting in to post your videos. By the way my truck is a 2002 1078 A1 and It came with the gen 2 air drier. Not sure why you have the first gen unit on yours considering that yours is a 2003.

No idea. But I still have a couple refresh kits so until I need to replace it, I’ll keep it around.

you might be able to re=create the broke off piece of that cap. with expoxy then use a dremil to shape it? But then again numerous folk have replaced that drier with a newer one and might have one around.

I thought about, but I didn’t have any ABS on hand. Maybe next time.

Do you think ( now that you’re done) that it might be easier to take the unit off and overhaul on the bench ?
@BrokeOverLand

Maybe, but there is plenty of room to work on it while still in the truck.

Hi Chad.. Just curious, what’s the function of the air drier?
@BrokeOverLand
@BrokeOverLand Жыл бұрын
Reduces the moisture for the air breaks. So the don’t freeze or rust.

Hello. Im getting ready to do the same service to my lmtv that just came in. My unit os missing the braided hose amd im looking for a spare. Any idea where I could find one or the specs on it would also work and I can have it custom made. thanks

If you are a member of the LMTV MTV Military Trucks Facebook page. I would ask there or on the steel soldiers web site.

No thanks. I like your method but I think you figured out why one of the first mods I did was to go Gen 2 haldex. I see them nos floating around on ebay often...Christmas is coming...stay tuned...

Hi, I have been watching your posts religiously. I am amazed to see true craftsmen, intelligent machinists, polymaths making things that are truly complicated and presenting it as easy..as 1,2,3 simplified processes. I hope I do not sound too patronizing.. there is no man-flirt intention here other than pure admiration of the standards your share sets for your art and engineering skills. . I have a different set of skills those of the so called "academic education" which in my fifth decade of living seems a shortcut and a waste of utility. I can write proposals and grants and publish like you weld but.... anyway.. feels superficial!!!!. I am starting to buy equipment.. I have run laboratories and machining facilities before as the project manager, not the "hands-on" person such as you!!! So can you share a little bit of your background, are your skills and knowledge for hire, do you have an inventory for a "dream shop" like yours? I know those are lifetime questions that require lifetime answers...but I ask them anyway...... It sounds weird but there is so much fulfillment projected from your channel - the fulfillment of the anticipation-full dopamine mechanism of being useful .. not necessarily the final results... although that has to be the outcome. Is there hope for us? Observers, non-handy men? , how long have your been building those skills for? please answer with a dose of humor as I am investigating to get a TATRA (probably 4x4 or 6x6 or 8x8) as I will supervise the construction of an additive manufacturing facility (hey.. tools for metal and carbon fiber 3D using robotics driven printers) and I will try to build a rig all from scratch as a learning process. Most importantly: THANK YOU... it is inspiring that people like you still exist.. making us wonder what the hell have we been doing all our lives full of shortcuts... Keep it up and hopefully some day I will have the honor to meet you in person. Best greeting, George

hey George, thank you for the kind words and I'm glad you are enjoying the project along with us. I do have ideas for a "dream shop" but that would be a conversation larger than the comment section. :) As for where I picked up the skills needed to do this project. The internet! well and growing up with family in the industrial arts. My back ground is actually in Information Technology. This project gives me that tangible sense of accomplishment I just don't quite get enough of through software automation. Maybe I'll do a shop tour one of these days. However, if I had to pick my favorite tool... It would have to be the Bridgeport mill, not the most useful, but I do love turning expensive metal into expensive junk and occasionally a useful object.

@@BrokeOverLand Thank you... I cannot agree more.. Python slave and PLC extravaganza moron here...both known for removing the mind from that tangible outcome of the Bridgeport mill. .. we are lucky in our chaotic binary world that we have discovered this .. I feel that I am going to enjoy this just as much as your videos...keep it up...we need more of you around!!!!!!particularly the self-criticism with the Monty pythonesque (python again!!) irony...making a cup of coffee and watching the rest of your videos- this is a well deserved Saturday morning of quality time..
