In the third part of my series on rebuilding the small Emco Unimat SL hobby lathe, we replace the original motor with a modern servo motor. In the process, we also rebuild the motor mount and install a belt tensioner.
The small Emco also gets HTD timing belts and a reasonable spindle nut. With the rebuild, the small machine has a much higher torque and the speed adjustment is stepless via a potentiometer. Left/right rotation is also conveniently adjustable with the small control.
