Here’s some extremely rare vintage footage of the Sesame Street gang making an appearance at the Fort Worth Symphony on July 23, 1972. Material of this appearance of the Sesame Street characters wouldn’t surface until on July 23, 2022, The SMU Jones KZfaq Channel, uploaded snippets of footage from a news reel including Big Bird about to perform the ABC-DEF-GHI song and later in November 28 of that year, more footage was uploaded by the same channel, which showed Big Bird conducting the Song of Five song similar to how he did it at the Boston Pops a year prior.
If you look closely in the footage you can see a cameraman holding a camera, which means this appearance of the Sesame Street characters was likely broadcasted on television but no tv recording of this live show is available anywhere online and it’s unknown what network the live show aired on and it doesn’t help there’s not much information online about it either.
There has also been other appearances of Sesame Street characters at orchestras that also have been lost to time, either due to the lack of people filming them or a lack of tv recordings from the 1970s and 80s that haven’t surfaced online. So until material of this appearance of the characters ever surfaces online, this piece of Sesame Street history will remain lost.
