CANADA를 만들 때는 캐나다에 있었다. 투어를 마치고 토론토에서 며칠간 시간을 보낼 예정이었는데, 몸과 마음이 너무나 힘들었다. 되도록 자기 연민에 빠지고 싶진 않지만, 어딘가 처연한 기분이야. 이걸 표현할 수 있는 언어가 없어 마음부터 혓바닥까지 회색이 되어가는 기분이었다. 힘이 쭉 빠진 정신과 몸의 상태로, 스튜디오를 부킹했다. 작은 스튜디오에 창문을 열어두었고, 해가 들고 바람이 불어 휘날리는 빨랫감처럼 시간에 몸을 맡기고 있었다. 이 친구들의 대화를 못 알아듣는 동안, 나는 조금씩 깨끗해졌다. 미국 블루밍턴에서 공연을 마치고 공항으로 이동하기 전 새벽 중의 몇 시간 동안 잠들지 않고 버티길 잘했다고 생각했어. 침대에 앉아서 이 곡의 데모를 음성메모 해두었다. 지우지 않은 음악은 처음이다. 스튜디오에 있던 이틀간 모든 선택은, 고려하거나 되돌리지 않고 전부 녹음되어 발매까지 했다. 노래를 한번에 불렀다. 욕심이 없어서 그런지 자연스럽다는 기분이었다. 존과 조와 피자를 먹었다. 최고의 피자였다. 돌아온 서울에서, 캐나다 트랙은 기념품 같았다. 내 민낯을 꽉 껴안았고 나에게 위안을 주었다. 준비하고있는 다른 트랙들에 비해 많이 조용하고 편안한 음악이었지만, 내가 경험한 시간과, 공간을 지배한 나의 감각을 선물하고 싶었다. 너무 사랑하는 트랙이고, 앞으로도 사랑할 것 같아! 그 때 영상으로 담아온 감각을 시간을 아름답게 구성해보았다. 세상에 낼 수 있어 감사해요.

English Translation of message from Hwang Soyoon: When I made the song CANADA, I was in Canada. I was going to spend a few days in Toronto after the tour, but it was so hard on my body and mind. I don't want to indulge in self-pity very much, but I feel kind of sad. There is no language that can express this, so there is a given that it turns gray from the heart to the tongue. I booked a recording studio with my mind and body in a state of exhaustion. The window was left open in the small studio, and the sun and the wind blew and rolled in like laundry. While I couldn't understand the conversations of these whispers, little by little, it became clear. I thought it was good to stay awake for a few hours in the early morning before heading to the airport after a performance in Bloomington, USA. I sat on the bed and took voice notes of the demo of this song. This is the first music that has not been erased. During the two days in the studio, every choice was recorded and released without any consideration or undoing. I sang a song at once. I felt like it was natural because I didn't have any greed. I ate pizza with John and Joe. It was the best pizza. Back in Seoul, the Canadian track was like a souvenir. He hugged my naked face tightly and gave me comfort. Compared to other tracks being prepared, it was quiet and comfortable music, but I wanted to present the time I experienced and my sense of dominating the space. It's a track I love so much, and I will continue to love it! At that time, I tried to compose time beautifully with the senses captured in the video. Thank you for giving it to the world.
