Very interesting video, thank you for posting it. I have a related question - I have 2 groups of users in my organisation. Operational staff and commissioners. I want the operational staff to be able to export the underlying data but the commissioners only to be able to export the summarised data. What is the most efficient way of doing this from the point of view of managing groups, and only having one version of the report, data set and workspaces?
@RADACAD4 жыл бұрын
unfortunately there is no settings in the Power BI website at the moment to do this configuration. if a user can export data, they can export both. You need to create two different datasets, with two different tables, summarized in one, and detailed in another one.

Hi! I generate an excel file by using Analyze in excel tool and sent to end users, so this Row level security will apply for the excel file that I generated too?

Thanks for this . I an m having a problem while applying RLS to power bi service. Agfter defining riles and mail assigned to it, if i logg in power bi service as a diffretn user i do not se rls being applied whereas when i test it as a role in power bi service . it works. Kindly suggest why it is not being applied when i log in as diffrent use?

Hi, thanks for this, In the case that the report its in my company's sharepoint what happens whit the roles?
@RADACAD4 жыл бұрын
doesn't matter where the report is. user will see only the data that they are authorized to see. if the report is hosted in sharepoint, still users are connecting to it using their Power BI accounts

When using RLS, if the user chooses to export the underlying data, is it true that RLS will prevent the export of data that they do not have access to? Are there any potential issues in this regard?
@RADACAD4 жыл бұрын
Correct. The user can only export the data that he or she has access to see, nothing more

Thanks Reza, I was wondering how to apply RLS for 300 sales people to only show each sales person his orders only. Thanks Emad
@RADACAD5 жыл бұрын
for that you need to implement Dynamic RLS. I have written tons of articles about it at radacad.com. videos will come also
@AMITKUMAR-mt7xf5 жыл бұрын
You can try Dynamic level Security, use USERPRINCIPLENAME() to take advantage of user logged in

Hi Reza, How do you manage RLS without O365?
@RADACAD5 жыл бұрын
Power BI accounts are O365 accounts anyways. What do you mean by RLS without O365? if you mean Report Server, then same principal works with Domain accounts in PBIRS
@Fernando_Calero5 жыл бұрын
@@RADACAD If the company runs its email service with a different provider, for instance with the gmail platform. Shall I have to duplicate the organization hierarchy from their email platform to O365 maybe in order to be able to deliver RLS within PBI?

how can i download dataset ?
@TehsimShaikh2 жыл бұрын
I followed the same instructions and in power bi desktop it shows me in view as it works fine. In dataset setting i have given the permission to 1 user to a filter. But that users can see everything. Why ?
@RADACAD2 жыл бұрын
how did you give permission to the user? if the user has edit access on the report then he/she would see everything. example of edit access is if they have Contributor, Member, or administrator rights on the workspace in which the dataset is published.
@TehsimShaikh2 жыл бұрын
@@RADACAD Thank You so much for your message, I created a new Workspace and that user is Member only. I am getting my data from Microsoft EPM and that user does not have the access to that environment. In my report i have values for example Sector where there are 10 sectors and from the publish dataset i assigned 1 user to 3 sector. So he should see only 3 sector values, but he can see all the sector values. As a workspace access he can only access the workspace as a member.
