“Set The Whales Free” Operation Sleppid Grindini, Faroe Islands 2015.

This June, Sea Shepherd returns to the Faroe Islands, led by our strongest at-sea presence in the region to date. The Bob Barker, Sam Simon and Brigitte Bardot will be supported by our land team, to once again stand in defense of pilot whales targeted in the brutal hunt known as the ‘grindadráp’ or simply, the ‘grind’.
We take our 2015 Faroe Islands campaign name from the Faroese term, “sleppid grindini.” Literally meaning, “set the whales free,” the term is the traditional order used by the grind foreman to call off a whale hunt.

I have a question: Why does Sea Shepherd claim that pilot whales are endangered, when according to UICN, NAMMCO they are not? Why does Sea Shepherd claim these people are barbaric? Why does SS claim that these islanders only kill for fun, when articles in the Guardian, New York Times and more clearly explain how it is not done for fun, but in order to gather what they see is vital food for them. Free food. Why does Sea Shepherd claim they are not against the people of the Faroe Islands but only what some of them eat, yet Sea SHepherd goes lengths to try to alienate every one of them and try demonize these islanders? To me it seems obvious Sea SHepherd says something and does something else. SS claims to use donations on protecting the oceans, yet at the same time most of the money is used on campaigns that does nothing to deal with the real problems of the oceans, overfishing and pollution, not some natives eating something that is not endangered.

Killing as if it is natural killing and killing again and over again a so evolved creature such as whale seems "natural" for you? This is done with cruelty, sadism, and perversity.. Whales are vital not only for the oceans, for the biodiversity but especially for the whole planet as they preserve Phytoplankton that is O2 producer at a level of 60% in the atmosphere, over photosynthesis process and CO2 (dioxide-carbon) recycler.Slaughtering Marine Mammals causes an increase of zooplankton and small fishes eating phytoplankton that dramatically decrease as well as O2 producing. The destruction of whales by the Faroeses will have extremely detrimental effects the oxygenation of the oceans and of the atmosphere.

This is ridiculous. These people have to eat, and as a tradition it is a great thing to have for them. If they shouldn't eat this meat, should they rather eat some animal that have lived all its life in a cage, and then have it shipped to the Faroe islands?

The only way to stop this is to be a thousand people on the beaches and on the water. No matter what it takes, it has to stop as quick as possible. Next year i will be on the faroese islands.

+Monkey Monster101 Bare in mind that Sea Shepherd is well know to ignore facts and reality that does not fit into their bubble of ignorance. SO expect them to ignore "tricky" questions as yours or expect them to bend the truth, as they do not care much for real facts. Only the fractions that support their money machine.

In Eastern Germany (former DDR) it was legal to shoot - and kill - their own citizens only for attempting to leave the country. No crime? Look at what is and was legal in which countries at which times, and you will hopefully reconsider your question.

It does not matter if they kill for profit or tradition. It is wrong and Sea Shepherd will stop them. They are the last line of defence for sea animals that cannot protect themselves against human cruelty/greed.

One more thing. At 1:43 the bald guy says that there is no longer a need for the whale hunting because that the Faroe Islands have the same things that every other country has. People always say that you should eat locally produced food instead of importing. So is it actually better to import a lot of food which pollutes the earth even more or to hunt the whales at their local fjords and killing them in a humane way?
