SET UP TALLER FOR A ROTATIONAL GOLF SWING

I teach a rotational golf swing not a tilted swing. In order to get it you need to set up taller. This taller set up puts you in a position where you can rotate better, it takes pressure off of your back, it give you lots of distance and it's easier to do. These things make it great for senior golfers.
I know that tilting over feels good and you see lots of younger players doing it these days. As much as the young tour players are doing it, is any one of them really dominating? No. You know how is? Scottie Scheffler. He does a taller set up as I show in this tip.
So if you are not set up taller then I want you to try it. This doesn't mean you try it for 3 balls and quit. Give it a bucket of balls because if you set up taller like this you will probably top it when you first try it and it will take a minute to get this rotational swing so giving it a bucket of balls will allow you to get used to it. Once you do, I know you will want to keep doing it forever. All you have to do is hit enough balls that you see the benefits of a taller set up and a rotational golf swing.

I noticed this tonight when I watched my swing videos. I am always bent over...hitting shanks and blocks 3 out of 5 shots🤦. I toyed with standing taller. It feels very different, but it feels so much better. Golf is so bass awards, lol. Thanks for the tips👍

@paulwilsongolf gotcha, I think it only feels way different because how far I have been bending over. I also notice that I almost sit back and knees bend a lot. My lead knee ends up bent/bowed forward in my finish. Do you think this will solve that issue with the knee bowing forward in the finish position? Thanks for your time and knowledge Paul!
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 2 ай бұрын
Well, it might. Typically the lead knee is bent due to human nature trying to protect your knees. You need to get used to it locking and overcome human nature. Being too bent could be stopping you from locking it though. See how you do.

Well, it's about algorithms, my effort and people spreading the word. Too many people now teaching everyone a real bent over swing. This will never work so at some point these people will find me. My niche is older people. I just need to keep doing what I am doing and hopefully everyone tells others and we get to 1 million subs. I figure 2 years but would be great if we got there sooner. Thanks for your support.

Cant tell you how much this advice helped! Ive played golf on and off casually for 20 years, but never taken lessons. Always self taught, trial and error. Im a big guy, and have always been able to hit my drives 280+. Since i turned 40, something changed in my swing and I couldn't figure it out. I was hitting 240-250 kind of suddenly, and didn't feel like anything changed in my swing. So i attributed it to "getting older"... Well, i have been working on this more "ready stance" you mentioned, and almost instantly saw results getting me back up to that 280-290 range again! I didnt realize how lazy I had become in my posture. Thank you for putting out the content that you do! Its GREATLY appreciated!
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 10 ай бұрын
Wow! That's great. If you are able to hit it 280 as you get older you will lose a little but not much. So you were hitting with arms to get a drop that big. Yes, ready stance. This will get you coiling properly. Then think it's around and around not up and down. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rpt7bLZq28DNfmQ.html Keep the arms super loose coming down and through. As I keep saying you don't have to be strong to be loose so you should be able to do this for life.

Amazing timing with this tip. I have a 9 HC and couldn't seem to get any better. I was watching your videos and picking up some nice little changes. But the other night I was practicing my swing. It was night so I saw myself in the reflection in the lanai slider glass and noticed I was bending a little more than I should be (with 7 iron). It wasn't as severe as you demonstrated. What was the aha moment was that I don't have this problem with my driver (hit 250-275). So I determined that with the driver -because of the length of the club - I wasn't doing that. But with my irons, I was squatting more. So I stood up more with the irons. Hit a small bucket at the range and after topping a few at first (just like you said), I was hitting it flush with rotation! Shot a 76 on my first round using the change. Just wanted to provide some corroboration for your tip(s). Many thanks for what you do
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 2 жыл бұрын
So glad you tried it with the irons. We do this will driver and longer clubs because they are longer. It's the shorter the club the more we tilt which is a huge problem. I would think this is going to be on your mind and you'll keep doing it forever. 76 is exciting for sure. Keep at it.

Thank you Paul. Just in case helpful for anyone else out there (and in case I hear from Paul I shouldn't do this!) I found it valuable for me to not only think about a taller setup, but also to maintain the taller position during my swing/rotation. For me, I updated Paul's "touch the back of your head" position at the follow through to also include the feeling of me standing tall, with my lower back arched a little inward, at the end of my swing. Before, I was starting off tall, and then bending over some during my swing, which created inconsistencies. Once I started with the taller setup and then maintained it during the swing, it made the world of difference - hitting it much more consistently and further.

Always appreciate the free advice on youtube! I did buy the Body Swing on your website and these little tips just further help with the foundations you have on the paid service. Also, I see a lot of comments about older players. I’m 38 and can still swing the way most pros teach a golf swing and hit it pretty well, HOWEVER, this program has me hitting distances and directions CONSISTENT! I lost a little bit of yardage (about 10-20 yards) but its so nice to know if I have to hit a ball 150 yards I know exactly which club will do it every time! Great technique regardless of age. Thanks Paul!

Thanks for your support. I truly appreciate it. Yes, these supplement The Body Swing as I have no time limit I can go in depth (not that I don't want you thinking in simple terms). Glad you see that this new swing they are teaching (I tried it 20 years ago) is harder to be consistent. Glad you are sticking with it. You can get a little more distance into the future with a little looser wrists and little quicker hips but for now just let it settle in and make it perfect.

Went to the range and tried this and it's going to work..amazing. I hit 7Irons like I had hair again...hit a small bucket and torched some 7 irons but also shanked some because of the change and getting used to it. I stand closer to the ball now and it just feels 100% better. I'm going to ride this thing out with Paul and go through these videos because i honestly believe this is a great system. Also took this same "stand up taller" attitude to the putting green and that has also helped believe it or not...no more slumping over...feels great and i believe im on the right track. Thank you Paul

You could be standing too tall or not tilting your head down enough. I have heard this in the past. The ball can be right on the line of the glasses for some people. So you need to either use 2 pair of glasses, bend over a little more, tilt your chin down. Just don't set up too tall.

I bought The Body Swing a couple of years ago and felt it helped my game. Over the past year, I began losing some distance (I'm 72 so I get that it's in part a consequence of aging) so I reviewed TBS and established that I was bent over too far, among other things. I remedied the setup and in practice, it's had a great effect. Playing is a different story because old habits are hard to break. I'm also getting to the top of the backswing better, the shaft closer to parallel with the Driver, always has been a struggle for me. In videos from 5 years or more ago, my backswing was incredibly short, leading to all kinds of compensations that created all kinds of inconsistencies.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support and glad you improved. Losing distance at your age is hitting. I did a tip on this here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bsqfls2JxNnchZ8.html It's easy to start bending over. Glad you caught that. As for playing you need your routine so you don't miss anything. Longer backswing is good. Short swings are for young people. Do daily practice swings at home facing a mirror to check your backswing length. Just watch the club get to parallel then keep doing it daily. In a couple of weeks it should be going there on it's own.

This particular video really helped me to see how the body swing blows away the arm swing. I know you were exaggerating the forward tilt for demo purposes, but as you swung the club around you could see that the body was forced to stop turning as the arms continued to. I also noticed that a narrow stance compliments the body turn way more than a wide stance.

Great!! I had a spinal fusion surgery 40 years ago and only the bottom two lumbar vertebrae are not fused together so I have almost NO side bend....it is physically impossible. This has always been my nemesis playing. Every time I have taken a lesson, I have been told that if I can't get any side bend, I will never get better. If I stand up taller with my irons (especially the shorter ones), do I compensate for the lost height by having more bend in my knees or making the iron stand more upright (flat lie on the ground)? I'd love to see you do a video on this subject with irons. Glad to finally see a video on this that is different than everyone else!

Thanks so much for this video. Instantly seeing improvements. Wow..I was that person you talk of. Bending over to much, getting weight way to forward of toe line creating really bad sway's and tips. Saved by golf sanity with this one.

Do you think that this feel will get rid of early extension and moving the head up at impact? I love this explanation, really spot on. Do you provide any online lessons if I send a video of my swing trying to achieve this? Thanks!!
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 4 ай бұрын
You need to add more hip rotation through impact to get rid of early extension. You can also work on this too: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jsWgeZqpkrWniIk.html Try this trigger: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iMqgm9eZqLedhoE.html I don't have time to do analysis anymore (especially right now as it's golf season). We really only do them for those who have my products as they know exactly what I teach so we are not having to explain it.

Around and around implies your right shoulder goes out causing an over the top swing. It did for me, anyway.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 2 ай бұрын
Yeah that would be around and down not around and around. If you lean left you will swing left. So lean right as you come down. Just do swings up in the air. There is no way you would swing around then down. You would go around and around 100% of the time. So get the feeling then slowly do it lower.

Amazing how I’ve been trying to fix my pull hook shots for so long and it was just as easy as standing taller. While is golf so difficult yet so simple at the same time???
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Simple is difficult for most. There is a ball sitting there and people want to whack at it as hard as they can. So although it is simple the ball is the problem. Just think that you are making a movement and the ball will be hit. In other words change how you think.

I have watched several of your "Body Swing" videos now (10-15). In this video, you mention standing taller. In adopting the "Body Swing" mechanics, can a golfer still use standard club lengths (irons) ? Or is it recommended to have longer shaft lengths? ...club head lie changes? Thanks..

For sure. The new flavor of the week is this bent over the swing. News flash. That swing is not dominating the tour. Who is the best striker? Scheffler. See how upright and tall he is. Maybe there is a correlation there ... hmmm.

@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 5 ай бұрын
Not sure why the disconnect. Stand up. Use your height to your advantage. Too many taller players bending way over. So stand up. To get it reduce the angle between the club and arms (from down the line). This taller club allows you to set up taller. Lots of angle and you will bend over too much. Once you are up then think it is around and around not up and down. Watch this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rpt7bLZq28DNfmQ.html I have taught countless taller people with my tallest being 7 feet. I stand them up and get them swinging around. Way easier and never hurts the body. Give it a try. Keep in mind that the flaw would be hitting thin and topped shots for a few minutes because you are not used to being taller as you swing.

Hi Paul, somebody recently told me that I hold my hands and the club handle too low. Is there a point of reference for where the golf club handle should point such as your gully button or bell buckle? Thanks.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 5 ай бұрын
Yes, just check the toe/heel position when the club is behind the ball. You want to toe just slightly higher than the heel. If the toe is way up your hands are too low. If you are of average height (I am 5'10") the but will point pretty much at the belt buckle.

I have been working on this for awhile and have seen somee improvement in my swing. I am using the single plane swing and my swing plane is from shoulder to shoulder. I watch many golf tournaments and that seems to be where most tour player are (shoulder to shoulder). You stance at address can't be vertical and can't be horizontal either. There must be some sweet spot where the swing is optimized. The amount of bend is likely different for each club. I am looking for a process where I can the correct amount of lean at address. Can you help?
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
To get this look at the toe/heel position. If you are too bent over the toe will be too much off the ground. Too tall and it will be too flush. You want the toe just slightly higher than the heel to make up for clubhead droop. If you are doing a single plane swing though they would want you reducing the angle in your wrists to shaft. I thought they wanted your clubs bumped more upright? Could have sworn I heard that. To me that's fine the taller the better without being too tall. Also, to check you need to see your ball clearly not your toes clearly (peripheral is fine). So stand up and check what you are seeing. I like people to look up to the sky then look down until they clearly see the ball. If you clearly see your toes you are too low. This is an easy way to check it.
