This may only be a problem here in Australia but if you tie zip ties to your helmet and have the extra bit sticking up it is a good deterent and the birds won't swoop

TIP / HACK IDEA - If you want to use a fuel station / garage tyre inflator to seat your tubeless tyres but you don't have a Schrader to presta converter? You can take the dust cap off your presta valve cut the top 5mm off the dust cap then thread it onto the valve upside down using the newly made hole and it converts your valve from presta to schrader. Its a really handy tip if you don't have your own air compressor

Here's a hack I used for a long time: if you only have clipless shoes you can cut a piece of old tire to fit in where a cleat normally goes and bolt it on then use them as flat pedal shoes

Hey Seth, one idea I saw from a buddy is to use a worn down low tread tire, cut it, and temporarily zip-tie it to a saddle. It keeps your bum from sliding around on the seat. After a big snow or rain the trails are muddy and this will give you more confidence. I'm a downhiller at heart and don't usually use my seat but I'm sure many people would find this useful. Never considered using a garden sprayer for cleaning my bike. I have no hose at home so this suggestion is absolutely brilliant !!!

Seth (and every person ever that uses zip ties), there's an electrician's tool that are fondly referred to as "flushies" - meaning flush side cutters. There are a few brands but the brand I've been using for years is Hakko: Hakko Micro Wire Cutters. These eliminate the need for Xacto knives or box cutter blades to get your zip tie cuts nice and flush and not have those awful, pointy ends that just destroy your hands and legs. 5 bucks. And they come in multi packs. They're small enough to fit in a hip pouch or one of those"water bottle" tool kits if you ride with that. Just thought I would point you towards them because I know I hate getting cut by those zip tie ends. Happy riding and thanks for all of the years of great content!

Preferably not from sponsors unless it fits into the theoretical budget (so no 5c frame or mission pro). It can be a hartail or a full sus. Both could be really cool. The idea is to bring back that botched together kinda feel that your old bikes had. My last bike rack wobbled all over the place as well. That's why I sold it and got a Kuat NV 2.0. It has a knob on the back that tightens the rack to your hitch so it doesn't wobble at all. I think there are a few other hitch mounted bike racks that do that as well. Kuat has amazing customer support as well, good company. My SUV has dual exhaust and a turbo so the exhaust seems hotter than it otherwise would be, and on my car the rack sits really close to the bumper when it's folded up so that combination plus the strap sitting right behind the exhaust pipe melted one of my rear tire straps. They sent me a few for free after one phone call. I just love it when companies make things like that really easy and stand by their products. I now slide the tire straps over to the center when folding the rack up and haven't had a problem since.

Tire bead seating and inflating tip: For stubborn tires, wrap a cargo ratchet strap around the circumference of the tire and snug it down. It forces the bead toward the rim wall, making inflation and seating easier (maybe even possible without a compressor or hack soda bottle inflater).

Great video! The bike hacks are what got me on this channel originally. For the hitch rack, a ubolt around the reciever and the hitch mount works better IMO. They also make a variety of products called anti rattle kits or hitch slop reducers. All under $15.

Leave the new tire in the sun for an hour & it'll be soft & pliable & much easier to mount or take off. Add some rubbing alcohol to the soapy water to evaporate the water with the soap.

I end up using your shoelace hack everyday, even out of my bike. You can say it is a life hack as I never have my shoelaces loose again :P

A few years ago I learned by necessity, how to use a square lash to tie both seat stays on my trail bike after they snapped at the weld to the seat post. Luckily I was on a boating lake and a family who were out on a boat came in and offered me a few feet of paracord to see if there was any way of securing the seat stays enough so that I could get home. By the time I'd done the lashing and used a trucker's hitch to tighten the cord as much as I possibly could by pulling it parallel to the top tube and around the head tube, it was as solid as a weld! So there, pro tip: fifteen feet of paracord (which you can macrame into a bracelet and wear it!) for those on the road frame repairs!

It may seem off topic, but I think many of us would really like to see a little bit of your video workflow process. You don't need to do a deep dive into your editing process, but just a good overall summary from shooting, organizing all the footage, overall edit process, and then particularly of interest to me, storage. You must have thousands of hours of raw and B footage from your videos. How do you store so much data? Cloud? RAID? Multiple hard drives? How are they organized so you can find that clip from a few years ago that you want to reference on a current video like you did here with the SoFla footage you put up? Again, not a deep dive. No need to give away trade secrets, but I do a lot of filming myself just for fun and for my own consumption and I'm starting to struggle with storing and organizing it all. I'm a big fan! I even ordered some SBH and Drama decals for my bike rack! :)

A tip I learned the hard way...when mounting your bike on the back of any vehicle, make sure no part of a tire is anywhere near the exhaust outlet. I destroyed a tire in about 60 minutes on one trip due to the hot gasses baking the tire.

Love the pump sprayer trick. I use this when the hose is off for the winter and need to wash my bike. Also, in Michigan, cutting aluminum cans is blasphemy. That shit is valuable lol.

+1: use an old pair of gloves when working with tires..... Maybe I am just weak and puny... but I always mess my hands up when working on tires.....

Seth, I wanted to share a tip I would love to see you share. When cutting the tag end of a zip-tie/ty-rap, instead of using side cutters that leave a sharp edge, use fingernail clippers to cut it flush. Give it a try! I learned this a few years back and it works great!

If you don't have a tailgate cover, u could use your back seat floor mats in a pinch

Seth, another hack for long laces is the square knot. Easy to tie and they stay tight until a sharp tug up loosens the knot. No double knots or tucking required. Tie the shoe with a square knot, snip off the excess laces and tie off the ends so they don't pull out through the holes (melt the tips if all or part polyester). I do this to all my running, biking, hiking shoes with laces.

The figured out the shoelace thing on my own this year after getting tired of constantly checking if they are getting close to bringing my to a fast hault all the time. When mounting or removing any tire, always start across from the valve stem. Because of manufacturing most rims have a high spot near the valve stem making it much harder to work from the valve location.

One inch Gorilla tape is the by far the best rim tape for going tubeless: It really sticks to the rim, plugging all the spoke holes airtight; it's thicker than all the expensive dedicated rim tapes out there (and I've tried a few and they all leave air bubbles), and the hole you make for the valve will not enlarge under the pressure. Two big tips: Buy a bottle of Schwalbe Easy Fit Tire Mounting Fluid, and use it not just on the tire bead (apply with a brush) but also under the rubber base of the valve to create a good seal between the rim tape and the valve. A real godsend! Lastly, inject the sealant only through the valve and only after you're certain that you have an almost airtight tubeless setup. Your tire may become soft VERY slowly, overnight or over several hours, and the leaks (wherever they are) are so small that you can't hear air escaping from anywhere on the wheel. Only then should you fill the tire with the appropriate amount of sealant. Pump up the tire and ride around the block a few times. You'll then have a tire that will not lose air for weeks!

I always carry tape. That 1" gorilla tape is good (good for rim tape if an issue). Awesome idea for the garden sprayer!!! Any idea how many YEARS I never knew what those hooks were for?!? Finally leaned to use those last year lol! I use an old movers blanket for a tail gate cover. Got it for free and can be folded over. I'll check out this foam, though. That movers blanket is a mess when it gets wet and is bulky. Great suggest on camera mounts! I have broken those plastic mounts by over tightening. I keep a dollar bill in my bike bag. Fold up and tape over a torn tire. Wont get you real far, but may keep your tube in (you do carry a tube, right?) To get back to the truck. Had a buddy slice a sidewall and had to make the walk of shame.

My car broke down, I was stuck biking to work. All I could afford was a Mongoose MTB from walmart. But I got hooked. Months later I buy a entry level real MTB! I watch your video's for months getting excited to hit the trails. Summer comes around finally and I find some trails. 3min into my first ride off pavement I hit a root it spins my handlebars and I go over landing on my shoulder like a newb. Now I'm stuck just watching your videos until I can ride again. How do you get past an injury? I'm 36 and thought I was doing something good for my health, you know what I mean? Tire tip: if you're installing a new tube, coat it in powder so it doesn't stick to the tire and it will reduce your pinch flats a ton

Bike hack:)take two pieces of 2 inch long inner tube put them grippy side out and stretch over either side of a water bottle cage the inner tube will grip the bottle and reduce vibration and eliminate waterbottle drops works good with classic metal cages and any cages that you can stretch the inner tube over

Finally I know what the hook is for on tire levers. I've been hooking it on the rim which isn't as useful.

I love your videos for new riders, my kids and I watch them religiously. Maybe one about what type of trails are good for new beginners or what to avoid as a new rider. I’d also be interested in what tire pressure to use on different trails, you mention it a lot in passing but more explanation would be nice.

I also drive a Ridgeline and use a tailgate pad (Dakine). It's easy to fold the tailgate handle part of the pad out of the way so that the backup camera works.

A CO2 inflator works great at setting a tire as well

Another great hack video. Love the shoelace one. Pool noodle. You can buy one at the dollar store and use it as a brake lever stop if you have to take a wheel off to put your bike in the car. It prevents the brake pistons from engaging. Just put a piece between your handlebar and brake lever.

I don't know if you still take suggestions, but I learned this one from Calvin on park tool: if you don't have a hose/garden sprayer thing to wash your bike, just use a bike water bottle and spray with that.

Bike wash mixture is expensive so go to a local car part store and get a gallon of car was mixture like I said you can get a gallon for about 6 dollars and all you have to do is get a 1 dollar spray bottle fill it with water and the add a little bit of the car wash mixture this could last you for over a year and is way less expensive then the 12 dollar bike wash that you only get one spray bottle worth.

Also if u have a garden sprayer make sure to let all the pressure out before storing

Hey Seth, for the slack in the hitch receiver, if you have an old axle U-bolt with the bracket laying around, you can tighten one of the u bolts around the hitch, then tighten the second one around the receiver. Both u bolts snug to the ubolt bracket, it can secure the bike holder eliminating that movement as well.

A bike hack I invented as a kid . .177 Cal BBs can be used to replace ball bearing in front axles of BMX and beach cruiser bikes . I've done this quite a few times to repair bikes I drug home in boxes after someone else had disassembled them .
