I physically swoon every time he sings 'that's me'. Liiiterally every time, like fall over, eye roll, knocked off my feet swoon.

Also, I relate to the description of this video on a spiritual level

I have worn out my Hairspray soundtrack by constantly rewinding James Marsden's songs. I remember nearly melting in my theater seat after his last "That's Me". I was SHOCKED that he could sing so well! And when he sang a little more in Enchanted I had hoped he would do another movie musical, but no such luck :(

I have been obsessed with his voice since I heard it in this. I had heard him sing briefly in other shows but it was so impressive in this. I love that biting edge he does at the end of those notes and OMG the "THAT'S"? Obsessed. I used to listen to just that one part in my car on repeat, repeat, repeat. Why isn't he singing all the time in more things? Why. Thank you for this.

The first time I heard his singing voice I was kinda shocked. I'd never even considered that the dude could sing, not to mention that he could actually sing *beautifully* . A pretty face with that singing voice, he's really a genetic lottery winner.

I'm glad you're giving him some spotlight for this ultra-suave and skillful performance. The only thing better than hairspay, that's he!

After watching James in X-Men, I had a dream that we were married. He still hasn't called. Welcome back. Zyrtec to the rescue.

ahhh I LOVE this :) Awesome deconstruction Seth, he does remind me a lot of Gavin Creel in Millie! And Natalie Weiss's Breaking Down The Riffs series is so wonderful!

I don't think portmanteau is the word you're thinking of :/ that's one word that is comprised of two words and means the combination of those two words. like brunch = brunch & lunch, or a spork.

No, he's right. Portamento is a musical term to describe something like a slide between notes. The guy is a music major so you can usually trust his terminology. Side note: Seth, literally the last person I expected you to deconstruct. I love that album and from listening to it, I realized that I think they only have one or two people to a part instead of a whole company singing background, that's why it's so easy to pick out parts.
