Kaiba was obsessed with beating Yugi. He would have did anything to do it. He thought the God cards were the key to beating Yugi, that’s why Kaiba had the entire tournament structure after acquiring your opponent strongest card when beating your opponent.

@@spartanq7781Some context was lost in the English dub unfortunately. The duel took place where Atem was originally laid to rest with the god cards. Since it was a "dimension duel" it meant that Obelisk was able to pass from the afterlife into the mortal realm, provided someone worthy summoned him. Kaiba was basically so determined to win that he called out for a miracle, and Obelisk answered in turn. Since Kaiba had his Egyptian ancestry he more than qualified for the Egyptian god to humor him and return from the afterlife briefly. That's what I remember reading anyways. It's been a couple years so take my words with a grain of salt.

not really, his japanese name is "oshirisu no tenkuuryuu" roughly meaning "the sky dragon of osiris" akin to "the winged dragon of ra". The winged dragon of ra isn't ra himself, it belongs to ra. Same idea with slifer : it isn't osiris, it belongs to osiris.

@user-wp2wp3vh8e He used the effect of Obelisk by tributing the last 2 monsters he had on the field. He tributed 2 monsters to destroy all of the machine's monsters and dealt 4000 damage to the machines' life points.

Seto was intrigued with Obelisk capabilities. But he didn't abandon blue eyes as you protruded it. Its kinda true how he did use blue eyes to summon Obelisk in that one scene against liam and umbra. But blue eyes is his backup plan if Obelisk attends to fail. He use Obelisk so much cause with the three gods out there. He took it safe and use Obelisk to get use to him and understand his abilities more

@@brunobuccirati6692the point of Egyptian God Slime isn’t to use it as a win con (unless you’re desperate) but rather using it as a tribute to bringing out a stronger monster and/or protecting your other monsters from targeting by battle and card effects, hence why it itself only has battle protection.

I think it also cements the status of blue eyes as a creature that rivals the Egyptian god cards. Something seto would sacrifice them for. In the ancient past the god cards banished with the pharoh when he locked himself away. Priest seto used the power of blue eyes to rule over Egypt when Atem handed him the throne.

Kaiba was Power Hungry after obtaining Obelisk that he Casted aside the Love/Loyalty of The Blue eyes for that Brief time until his Battle with Ishizu. At that Critical time it was the Blue Eyes Warning Seto that Obelisk Will Betray him at his time of need (Blast Held by a Tribute) and to Summon her instead.

Both Seto and Atem are driven by the desire to win. Seto is a realistic person, he wants guaranteed results. Atem is willing to gamble for the potential of victory, adapting rapidly to fate until he realizes his destiny and then commands it.

You kinda forget that kaiba has soul exchange, which makes summoning obelisk easier and more devastating on top of its effects. While slifer depends on outside factors, the hand size specifically. In a strategy based deck like yugis, having to keep cards in hand limits said strategies while obelisk could be summon on any turn with any level of commitment and it would still be devastating on top of having god protection in a power/beatdown deck... A good way to describe it is that obelisk is a win condition that is hard to beat, while slifer is a powerful card that can be useful if all the stars align...

One of Obelisk's anime effects is, you can tribute 2 monsters on your side to increase Obelisk's attack points to infinite till the end of your turn. Kaiba used that to run over the Ultimate Dragon.

I'm always dumbfounded at the love fans have for Seto and the hate they have for Atem. The reasoning is because of how Atem "cheats" when that's not his fault it's just the show being inconsistent with how it's cards work and every character has had this happen several times, including Seto himself. People want to hate on Yugi for how he defeats Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon but Seto can use Monster Reborn to revive one of the dragons heads (WTF?!) and that's apparently okay. The moment of Seto being warned by the millennium rod that he should sacrifice Obelisk and summon Blue Eyes instead is another example. I guarantee you if that moment happened with Atem instead everyone would hate it but because it's Seto it's alright.

I get that Seto is funny and that's probably the biggest reason as to why so many people love him but he's also the biggest asshole on the planet and is, at least for me, entirely unlikable. The show tries to dangle Mokuba every so often to remind us he's not entirely bad but that got old after a while. You can't have a character care about only one person and expect me to think they're still a good person.
