When conducting RTK field surveys, we usually establish a base station with an Emlid RS2 GNSS receiver setup over a known point. In this video we explain how we:
1) Locate a Permanent Survey Mark (PSM)
2) Setup our base station (Emlid's RS2 GNSS receiver) above the PSM
3) Configure the RS2 with the coordinates of the PSM and set the base station to transmit corrections via LoRA radio.
By correcting the data received by our rover GNSS receiver in real time using a technique called Real Time Kinematics (RTK) we can obtain survey grade accuracy for our rover.
Keep in mind that your RTK rover may be a second GNSS on a survey pole, a drone capturing photogrammetry data or even a hydrographic survey vessel!
The benefits of establishing our own base is that we can work in many locations independent of NTRIP or other services which can provide corrections.

Thank you so very much, I get out in the field so rarely that I forget small steps each time. I never knew the tip about adjusting level 2 points at a time, handy. Handy that youre even using the same GNSS stuff i am, didnt know that you could take GPS to 1 HZ without having to play with the bandwidth.

Hey thanks Ben, looks like you've been creating some great material too! You've been at it a bit longer than us - it must be great to be able to look back at the huge amount of material and see what has changed and what has stayed the same. Definitely subscribing to your channel :-)

@@MangoesmappingAU hahah, thanks mate. Yeah its a bit of yes and no. It is good looking back but at the same time, there are some videos that I have done that I find annoying and cringeworthy and so want to go and edit them, but I can't hahahahhaha I have actually been pretty slack lately, I don't post as often as I use to. I find the video part easy, it's the editing and the copy and the heading and the captions and the thumbnail and all that sort of stuff that I find time consuming and boring. Last few years I have sort of moved over to Instagram and I find that a lot easier, as it is just point and shoot and that is it, it is up and I can move on. But unfortunately, its too had to search for stuff on there, so I think KZfaq will always be the place people go when looking for something in particular. So I guess this is a bit of a kick up the butt for me to get a move on and start posting again hahahahahahah

Can you guys shoot and post a video on how to create a new Known Point? I think you can do this using a procedure called Static Processing. Thanks!

Hi Eric - we do a heap of projects to create known points using static logging so we will definitely make a video to share the finer points of this process. I'll shuffle it up the priority level on the 'to do' list!

Thank you Sir for all your useful information. We have been using the Emlid RS2 for several months and very happy with it. What do you consider is an acceptable margin of error when staking a point to verify accuracy

Maybe it depends what brought are staking, drainage on sloppy sight needs less accuracy compared to bolts for precast steel

Don't need to on such a small project, generally only used on long terrestrial traverses or large survey projects. The software he's using is based on a projection and will allow grid surface to ground surface corrections.
