That 10 person table looks like a perfect place for the Simpsons figurines to live.

The UL certified is probably for the ground wire. We have ground wires connected to our racks.

🤔. Good point. There is a hole in the base for a ground strap.

Since I am usually racking gear solo, a trick I've used is to set a torpedo level on the cabinet I'm installing. Much easier than trying to line up with numbered holes on the rail.

Sorry for the dumb question but why does the server rack get mounted to the ceiling? I’d be scared of it falling but don’t have any experience with server rack installation
@DavidLatham-productiondave
@DavidLatham-productiondave Жыл бұрын
Its standing on the floor but tied to the ceiling so it doesn't topple over.
@JohnsBasement
@JohnsBasement Жыл бұрын
If you use mounting rails so things slide out like drawers then the rack can tip and fall face-down more easily than you think. The flanged bottom brackets help and can be bolted to the floor to address the concern. However, in this case, the top can be more easily connected to the ceiling... and with less damage to the house than drilling into the concrete floor.

why didn't you assemble the whole thing on the floor and then stand it upright at the end?

Because it didn't seem necessary until it did. 🙄

I've had a sort of autistic fascination with determining the absolute smallest area of housing I could comfortably accept living in, that seeing a big empty new house is like upgrading a Commodore PET to a current PC🤣 If you don't mind my asking, what city and how was the price?
@JohnsBasement
@JohnsBasement Жыл бұрын
In this housing market, there is very little available. It is not THAT big... I'm sure my camera was in wide-angle mode on those shots. Moving further west of Chicago gives you more for your dollar. So, price- and space-wise it is about an even trade once my sweetie and I both sell our existing homes. It is in Kane county. About $500K. Only things under that price these days are glorified tool-sheds... and if you want one, you can buy *my* old house! 😂

@@JohnsBasement Thanks. I've been thinking about moving out of Illinois, but the process of just picking up and moving across country feels like both a headache and a gamble, just quitting your job and leaving everything you know for the hopes of something better. I don't know how people do it.
@JohnsBasement
@JohnsBasement Жыл бұрын
@@airix10 I hear that! All I did was move around 20 miles... maybe it would have actually been easier (mentally) if it required actual planning and packing everything into boxes for hired movers. Since I work at the midpoint between homes, I tend to swing by the old place for a few boxes after work each day. That'll have to wrap up once I actually lease/sell the old place... which is quite modest indeed.. BUT it is (as I have decided to advertise) only one adult-guarded intersection away from a top-rated Illinois grade school! (In fact, it is where *I* went in the 1970s... So it *must* be great! 🤣)
