I was just using my Hammer N4400 and was wondering how to better setup the ceramic guides. This video was invaluable. I went right out to my shop and made the corrections to the factory installed equipment. I appreciate your time in making the video and putting it on You Tube.

I just got a Felder FB510. I tried to adjust the upper guides by eye. Kept failing. THen you said 'business card' and I pressed a card between the guide and blade and tightened the screw with the card between. It is now perfect! Thanks for the inspiration.

Hey. Thank you for a helpful review. I have had Fb510 about 6 months with the standard guides and I have also thought that I might chance to the ceramic ones. There was so little difference when buying ceramic ones installed then upgrading later so I didin't take them because I thought that I can do it later if I want. I have not really liked them too and for a some reason I never get them to stay put when I have installed the blade so I need to always tighten them all over again.

Great explanation of the x guide system - I am about to order the FB510 with these guides fitted. The only aspect of the saw that I didn’t like was the ABS blade tensioning wheel - this is inconsistent with the industrial build of the saw. And disappointing at the price point. I wandered about the durability aspects as I have seen a cracked tensioning wheel on a Felder FB 600 - disappointing for Felder. Your thoughts appreciated!

Thank you very much for this detailed video on the setup. I hope Felder see this video and learn a bit how to support the customers. I was worried for some sparks that saw from time to time but looks that is normal. My guides are too much separated from the blade. From practical point of view, how much lateral deflection (tension) do you allow to the blade?

Ok so before felder I use to try and judge this by how by pressing the balde set arund 4" cut and look at defrection but this didn't alway end up the same each time. since the FB510 I use the yellow balde tesion guide inside the machine. and stick to it 100% .. for me it works perfectly and agian my test has always need can I cut perfectly straight using the fence .!

Hi great video, I have found that the cutting edge of the blade should not be off the edge of the wheel, and the blade should Definitely not be centred on the wheel, the deepest part of the gullet of the blade should be centred on the rubber tyres. Have a look at Alex Snodgrass (Bandsaw Life Videos) of Carter bandsaw products, he shows what part of the blade should be at the centre of the wheel and then to set the guides up once the blade is in the correct position, the side guides should never need to be adjusted regardless of what size bandsaw blade is used, He really knows his stuff when it comes to bandsaws.

My FB510 arrived this week. Having fun setting it up with the wheel kit. Unusually it arrived with no power cable ... just the IEC style connector. Is the electrical cord the same on your machine, or direct wired ?

Fantastic video, many thanks! One question: you use the 25 mil blade with the teeth just slightly “in front” of the wheel (e.g. the teeth not on the rubber) while a smaller blade would have to be set in the “middle” of the wheel, e.g. the teeth actually on the rubber of the wheel), is that correct? Thank you so much for your help!

Yes :)

Good one! I have the same guides on my Hammer N4400 & I am still a bit confused about the positioning of the blade on the wheels - per the manual you are supposed to center the blade on the wheel, but you set the teeth slightly of the rim. Could you elaborate on that? Cheers, B

Bert Vanderveen Hi Bert, this is the way I have always used a band saw , the key for me is does the saw cut straight using the fence !! I did speak to felder before I stated on this FB10. And was told correct keep large blades 25mm + in front of the rubber .. to 2 blade I use in this demo covers all blades :)
@matthewbyington24184 жыл бұрын
Bert V you should hang the blade off the front as shown in the beginning of the video. The reason is the wheels are flat. For crowned wheels the deepest part of the gullet should be in the middle of wheel. But the 4400 has flat wheels.

Any chance you could advise me with the setup of a fb 610, I’m having a nightmare, and felder assistance is of no use

Hi Dentro, I haven't seen a FB610 but expect its the same as the FB510 .. you should see all of the info on this video really I didn't do much other than remove orig set and install the Ceramic guides.. Felder UK are very helpful

also having a nightmare. did you ever get your's set-up properly. My problem is mounting the upper guide to the guide post

How much of a concern are sparks? I have ceramic guides on a Felder bandsaw and I notice it does generate some sparks. What is the best spray lubricant to minimize that? And how concerned should I be about a fire in the dust collector? Awesome video as usual - thank you MW!

I don’t use spray sparks are not a problem

Hello, you are a great Woodworker, do you know how the cuts perform with the normal blade guides, can you resaw nicely or is it horrible?

It’s ok , it not as nice to work with

Hi I have now finally got the FB510 up and running after getting 3 phase power to my workshop. While I am generally very happy with the performance mine has an electric brake that makes a very alarming noise each time the saw is switched off. Not sure if yours has the same set up - but if it does have you experienced similar issues? I also purchased the x guides but not yet installed - I agree the standard guides are a bit agricultural and more noisy than you would expect from Felder. There are much better European guides available ( Panhams) that would have made the standard saw better. Tip: If you buy the x guides with the saw there is a special deal and the extra cost is very low (!)

I think mind also has the brake and a sound not sure it sounds a bad noise ..

I'm a woodworker of 30 years and have used my N4400 for free hand cuts for about a year and have loved it. Recently I've needed to rip straight cuts on it and it's letting me down badly. I cannot for the life of me get it to cut straight. I've tried everything and I'm losing the will to live!!. The ceramic guides are loose and moving when I set them up as per the tech support guys in Milton Keynes. I've adjusted the fence for drift, the guide post moves by 4-5mm when I tighten it down. I think it might be the problem but still no joy. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Try a new blade , after cutting curves I find straight cuts can drift ..

Dermot Coll I am having a similar issue. I ordered a blade with higher TPI. It’s supposed to come this week.

I think after 5 years they are not meant to cut straight,tried all the possibilities,fence,tension,new blades,on hardwood they just wont,I am talking about hammer N 4400,I thought it my cermic guide upgrade ,Felder disappointed me ,what they show in video is something else and reality is something else .

Hi, after using the FB 510, have you had any issues with the rubber tires ? They keep on tearing apart as I am using the machine. I have bought this bandsaw over half a year ago, and since then the rubber tires disintegrated 3 times, bending my saw blades in the process... Am I the only one having this problem ?
@ManorWood5 жыл бұрын
never had any problems.. yes to hear you problems

Some of the adjustments for bandsaws are a joke - fiddly to set using 3 or more allen keys and below the table is even worse - Minimax are you listening?
