Today I’m setting up my new 2019-20 Erin Condren Neutral Horizontal planner - I’m trying a bunch of new things, which might work out great, and might be a big old hot mess. Who knows?

Thanks for the shout out on my Teaching My Kids to Adult page! It's totally a work in progress and I need to revise and figure out how to leave space to add! Love your additions! My son just got into his first accident so...totally relevant. Packing (travel soccer) has been a part of my kids' life forever, so I omitted. I love what you did and appreciate the credit!

I love this video. I really liked the "Life Skills" idea. My sister & I have been "adulting" since I was 8. We learned how to cook & clean by the time I was 8, my sister, 10. My mother worked two jobs. My sister & I went with her on the second job and helped there. However, since we had to leave the house at a certain time after my mother got home, we had to prepare dinner so we could eat before leaving. We were also responsible for cleaning the house and doing laundry, (which we had to do at a laundromat). I find that so many kids today aren't even responsible for keeping their rooms cleaned, much less helping around the house with even the basics, (doing dishes). While I wouldn't place so much responsibility on a child, (it was a necessity for us), there would be chores. We never received an allowance; it was just expected and necessary to a certain extent. It taught us responsibility, I'll say that much. Also, I find that a lot of kids (I've been around), liked being able to help; it gives them a sense of accomplishment. I taught my husband how to cook, clean & do laundry, when we got married. He's now somewhat of an expert. LOL

I think chores are necessary to teach responsibility and to take care of and have pride in the space that we live in. Allowance is fine, but not as a reward for taking care of the house since it's something we should all do. Allowance just to give them a lil money and if they want more the kids can learn a skill or volunteer to do extra chores

Yes please to a flip through. And I think it's brilliant to do the calendars for your pain tracker. I hate that you have to track pain, but I think it's a convenient place for it. And please letter rooms of the house for KAD. I really like that page, and well, my writing needs lots of practice. I need a snail mail list in my planner too. Thank you for the great ideas.

Big huge thanks for sharing. Great idea for your pain tracker. It’ll give you a great snapshot that is easy to access. I might use mine for days I exercise. Love the idea of the boxes for home improvements. Currently, I have an EC Deluxe Monthly Planner just for my budget because I am going all Dave Ramsey on it and I need the space. So maybe when I start my dot grid experiment soon, I can add that idea in a similar way. Also, you are so much like me with your comments and ideas. I have chronic back pain so maybe that is why we are delightfully sarcastic. I too am looking into a pain journal and will be taking your clear sticker calendar idea!

Ahhh your set up is sooo intentional and connected with your other planners. I think the pain tracker is a great idea and the meal planner - you are really using this as a tool specific to you. I looooove the adulting spread and as a teacher just want to say THANK YOU for being intentional about this. I get a lot of emails or just hear stories from the kids that are showing how much they really need explicit help with learning these life skills -- the kids who are starting to develop these skills.. it is so noticeably and really can make such a difference!! 👏👏👍👍🤗

Hell yeah! on the flip through. I like the idea of sending random snail mail out and tracking it. Just think you will single-handedly prop the postal service up as thousands of folks start sending snail mail again. Using the monthly calendar for meal planning is brilliant! You'll have that down no problem, as you already do a great job weekly with your meal prep. And you have last year's planner to gather info / ideas from too. And think, you will be able to put your 'focus food' at the top of the month.

I do meal planning on a monthly calendar. We sit down once a week and plan it that way instead of a whole month at a time because we change our minds a ton. I use the note space for my freezer inventory. It’s kept us on track for over a year now and let’s me look back on what we liked and didn’t care for.

The first driving lesson my dad taught me was how to change a tire, and I've been forever grateful. He also taught me about writing checks and using a credit card when I went to college, and my mom taught me to cook and sew, but a lot of the other stuff on your lists (insurance? mortgage?) I had to figure out on my own. Of course email wasn't invented back in my youth, when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

I'm gonna tell you right now, learning the importance of attending class is something you have to learn for yourself for a lot of reasons. Some schools don't have an attendance policy. Some classes you can get an A in and learn everything you can learn from reading the lecture slides on your own time and taking the exams. Some you legitimately will fail the exams if you miss a class because the material is so important, or there are no exams so the discussion in class is really the point (I was a double major and had no exams my senior year, but many of my 1st year classes were literal regurgitated textbook chapters).

You are so right, I am finishing my Masters Degree online, that takes a lot of self motivation and discipline to make yourself do the classwork on time and to check the syllabus to be sure everything is done. There is no one else to make sure you get it all done and no one who asks where your assignment is. Discussion participation is usually a big part of each class and actually takes up a lot of time to respond to so many comments, more than I though it would when I started classes. I now dedicate a certain time every few days just for discussion posts and comments. I made an assignment tracker in my HP and it is a life saver! And I LOVE checking off each assignment as it gets done. Is a great visual to let me know I am almost there :)

Like you I use Google calendar so I’ve been using the monthly view in my EC to sketch out when I think I will get to the monthly/weekly things on my Tending List in my power sheets - a pre-plan that I know will change but I do it when I make my tending list each month because it helps check my impulse to over plan...kinda how you use the horizontal to visualize your day. I do it on a monthly scale knowing something will screw it up but at least in theory there is an intent to my plans that is tied to real time blocks.

Thank you! I pretty much love everything you did... BTW, I consider the notes page as at the end of the month, rather than the beginning because I don't mentally feel like the month starts until I turn the tab. With that page before the quote page, I don't feel like the month has officially started yet. I don't do anything with that first page because it's stupid. I also usually recoil at some point during the year and move a page to the end of the last month, so I suppose that's how I deal. I'm being lazy about "setting up" because we'll be in a camper on the road for almost all of July, so I have no urgency yet.
