The first night in my new guesthouse room passed very comfortably. I had high hopes for the air conditioning and the effect it would have on my life, and I was not disappointed. The cool dry air in the afternoon evening and night made me into a new man.
And in this video, I give a tour of some elements of my new room and how I am making myself at home.

Doug travels thousands of miles away from home to the exotic far East, a small thai border town that is a gateway to the magical kingdom of Burma. "Now, let me tell you about these hooks in the bathroom. Then we'll have a detailed half hour on the toilet flush and the mysteries of the water heater and non slip bathroom mats" It's not exactly Rudyard Kipling. But it is oddly addictive and relaxing. Maybe mundacity is the new adventure travel. It's an interesting niche. Anyway I'm really enjoying these, I had no idea I had the capacity to sit through an hour of someone going shopping for budget keyboards or hard drive enclosures but clearly I do.😀

Doug, best that you check with the owner about your electricity meter reading and cost early. Avoid a misunderstanding and shock later.

I did check with her, and everything seems to be okay. I couldn't get an exact figure about how much I'd be paying per kilowatt hour, but I don't seem to be using up very much electricity. The final bill should be reasonable. 🙂

Hi Doug, I suggested that all placed all the small bottles of drinking water into the freezer, upon it frozen , carry them a few bottles whenever you go out, when the ice slowly slowly melt into water, drink it, you will feel extremely cooling down under hot weather like Thailand..

Now you are a new man, thanks to the AC. 🙏 The electricity consumption is so low possibly because the AC is the latest model what they called an inverter unit. It runs on a DC circuit, so it is very economical. So nice to see all the extras fitted in the room to make your life more comfortable and less preoccupied with the thought of their lacking if they were not there. Often I had to call up reception for toilet paper or floor towel for the bathroom and other things even in 4/5 stars hotels. Life is often made up of small things. And small things can make a lot of difference. Many modern inventions/things are a result of paying attention to small details. Just like the iPhone and other smart phones. Remember in history, the first modern day computer produced by Alan Turing with hours of years of detailed inputs that finally made it able to read the German codes, the Enigma Machine, saved humanity from more damage during the WW2. So little details may save life. Or at the least can make you uplifted. Glad that your subscribers are so happy to listen to your thoughts about the small things in your mind coming from the environment. Your laughters/chuckles, your thoughts on details and your happiness over small gifts package - all made this vlog worth watching. 🤩

It only took a few secs to find info online on the water heater. Apparently, the two buttons are Test/Reset buttons as part of the power surge electronics. Good to know in case you find the red light, indicating hot water, doesn't come on.

Good day, if you want to keep your electricity bill low while using your A/C, one option could be to program the unit on DRY mode. It removes the humidity in the room, and this helps a lot to cool down the temperature. Cheers from Yangon

In my thought about how to recover your old HD. Based on my experience, someone else may have better way, i guess. You can only access it by swapping it in place with the built-in HD in any other Laptop/PC, it may not possible to access it as another external HD (D: , E: , F: etc.). Once it works and you can access and operate it as a C:\ on new PC ( with the OS in side it), you can transfer all necessary data out to somewhere else ( another external HD) . Upon completing this transfer, you swap the new built-in HD back to its place. This way you need a disassembling skill or can ask the repair shop to do again

you need to format the hard drive with exFAT to use with phone. Your current format is NTFS and i suggest you to copy your files to new hard drive as soon as you can access your hard drive again. the hard drive had bad sector since in your laptop and that's why it took so long to open when they put it in the case. they didn't use any program to decrypt it. You can also try to repair and fix the hard drive, that's the easiest way to bypass bad sectors.

Your electricity consumption is only 1.6kw over 24 hours!? There must be something wrong with the meter! Assuming the air con is a 1 hp unit, normally it will easily consume something like 10kws or more assuming you set it at around 24°C. So, enjoy the comfort whilst it's still cheap! Take care and keep safe, Doug.

Could it be the usb cable problem? Did you try the same usb cable to access the hard disk?
@mohdk2299
@mohdk2299 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, could be cable. From my experience, 2.5" HDD may need more power. Some HDD require more than 0.5A especially internal one, most older USB port or smartphone will not support. His external Seagate HDD might be tune to use low power for capped performance, you wouldn't get much speed anyway for using USB.

Re your comp. If you obtained it in Thailand it'll more than likely be a copy. Even a new one in any of the shops will have copy set ups. After a while Google will block it. There are ways of resetting/unblocking it. But the only way of getting things to go correctly 24/7 is to buy a new disc NOT COPY. They will all sell them for a few thousand bht but they will more than likely have to order. Best of luck. Re electric I Don't rent and the price I pay is 3.14bht a unit. Like all rental places they load it. Question What do you find to do in Mai Sot I have been there several times and cant wait to get out. It's a ghost town.

He calls his room the Fountain of Youth as he likes to put the mattress on the floor, so as to keep himself “young” although he’s 64 years old.

I'm Thai, Electricity bill always confused even Thai people. But in super short brief "The more you use, the more you pay." for an example if A use 100 unit he will pay 500 Baht (Which is 5 Baht per unit) but if B use 1000 unit he will pay maybe 8000 Baht (8 Baht per unit).
