Seems like everyone is in agreement with this being a great process. I'm going to give it a shot. I get some buzzing from my G string on my Strat when playing certain songs. I'm not sure why though. When I just pluck the string it doesnt buzz so the only thing I can think of is it may be how aggressive I hit the string when playing the song at that point or maybe the way I fret it when coming off the note prior. Anyway I'll definitely give this a shot, it can't hurt. Update: I went ahead and did this with my strat that the "G" string was periodically buzzing on certain songs and it eliminated the buzzing completely! I was pretty happy that I got that resolved so easily. So there you have it, follow this trick and you can possibly eliminate any buzzing issues you may be experiencing. Thank you for posting this video, it helped a great deal!

Hello all, as Ronnie said the neck was slightly bowed, with the wider gap under the 12th fret. I fixed it that night by adjusting the truss rod. The random buzzings where caused by a string slightly touching the frets on certain notes. I fixed it with the help of a technician who grinded the frets, bringing all the frets to the same height. I hope I've been clear enough and I'll help somebody 🙂🤞

Actually, this really is the craziest method to set-up the action on any guitar. I did set-up an about 2mm (below 5/64") low action on a Strat in 2 minutes: no buzz at all all along the 22-frets (painted) maple fretboard (0.0095 - 0.044 strings) and strings follow the radius very, very precisely. Strings are low and soft and you can bend easily. The most difficult step of this procedure is to attach the tape in the best way to hold the card in place...ahahah! :) Thank you, Gale: a blast of a trick!

The most important part was skipped to get good action, he missed the fret job. Set the neck completely flat by adjusting the truss rod with no strings on, get a fret leveling tool from Stew Mac. Masking tape all the fret wood, but leave the frets showing. Black magic marker all the frets, and level them until the last black mark is gone. Dont overdo it. Now you will need a diamond fret crowning tool and crown them all. Next use 600 sandpaper dragging it flat across all the frets evenly, not sideways, but the legnth of the fretboard at a brisk speed.working your way to 1200, 1500, 2000 grit. Next you can buff the frets to a mirror finish with fine automotive compound. String up the guitar and set the bow at .007-..010 at the 12th fret, tuned up.Then you are ready to set the string slots in the nut, then the action/intonation.

Thank you very much Mr. Frudua for your great tips!! I followed your lecture to adjust the action on my Warmoth strat and that really solved my long problem in gettimg it set-up right (i am rather a player with very light touch, so the lowest possible action is always what i require for my own playing). It took me really less than 3 mins to get the action right which has been puzzling me for 2 years since i built that Warmoth strat. Truly enjoy and like your video lectures on guitar set-up. Cheers, greetings from Hong Kong.

I've used a similar method for years and it works great.Remember to use 0.75 mm card and to straighten the neck first (no relief) before you start.If you experience no buzz on all frets then no relief is needed.If there is some buzz, add relief a little at a time. Grazie mille for posting.

This little trick worked amazingly well. The key is to make sure the credit card is positioned properly at the correct radius of the neck and also as mentioned pluck the strings very lightly. This will definitely get your guitar in the "ballpark". Thanks!

I can see why you had to tune up every time if you lower the string it gets loose and more floppy which means it's not at the correct tension to justify fret buzz

what should it be the right order to perform a Guitar setup in case you Buy a second hand Guitar?. What comes First? for example: 1.Truss Rod, 2.Strings action, 3.intonation. Thanks for Your videos Your KZfaq channel its great!!.

The first steps should lead to a perfect action. Using the tremolo is something you cautiously add to your sound. Since it is a very deliberate action l don" t think there is a risk of strings touching the frets. So in mho I do not think you have to pay attention to the tremolo.
@stephenstrings
@stephenstrings 7 жыл бұрын
Yes the tremelo springs will need adjusting whenever the saddle heights are adjusted. When the bridge saddles are higher the string tension has a longer lever arm and will pull the bridge plate up ( so you will need to re-balance by tightening the spring claw) and vice versa of course. Also check my other comment on absolute saddle height implications . By the way Frudua's method seems odd and haphazard to me.
@vladduh3164
@vladduh3164 6 жыл бұрын
truss rod first, then action and finally the intonation, however id check the truss rod the next day cuz the wood of the neck might take some time to adjust to its new position and therefore might change the action again, in that case readjust the action, intonation should be still fine, mind that you would need an electric tuner to adjust intonation

Why do you need the capo?
@deasttn
@deasttn 7 жыл бұрын
It holds the strings down onto the frets. That creates a straight line between the fret and the saddle/bridge as opposed to a line between the nut and the saddle/bridge.

C'mon, it's 2017, you're not gonna get laughed off stage for using a capo on an electric. I use a capo on the 1st fret so I can switch between half-step down tuning for my wannabe emo music, and standard tuning for my crappy metal stuff.

The capo is to bypass the nut where slots are often not carved deep enough (thats why you you get sharp notes with open chords down the neck with most cheap guitars)
