Bruh! I've spent years (ok just 3 but still) with bouncing between FCX and Adobe products and KZfaq trying to dial in how to be better (at just editing). Around February I got into Davinci but hadn't spent any real time with it or doing anything besides editing and rendering. In the past week I've learned more (and dipped my toes in color, fusion and sound) than I had the whole time watching other Youbers "teaching" how to do X Y or Z on other NLEs. Thanks for dumbing it down without making me feel dumb.

A common workflow is to shoot 4k footage and crop into a 1080p timeline. If a shooter shoots a static wide shot of a band playing and one wanted to crop in on the singer and have the camera follow the singer, wondering if that is possible with the reframe. I haven't upgrade yet, so I can not test properly. The social media is definitely a good option for this tool. But having a static camera filming a live situation and then later being able to do panning following someone - could be the hidden gem with this tool.

regarding color grading not linked... What about using the clips on the first timeline as color grade reference clips to each their counterparts of timeline 2? That way you only need to color grade the clips on timeline 1... right?

i cannot even move the image around and adjust the position manually cause as soon as I set Mismatched Resolution to Scale full frame with crop, it crops and cuts the overlap so if I move/adjust the crop areas I bring in the black background, you know? hard to explain

This is a very compelling reason to get the Studio version of Davinci Resolve. I edit on two different devices. Does that mean I would need to buy the studio version for each device?

You can have a single key license on two systems at a time. If you get the USB dongle license it can only be in one system at a time.

You could always use the Color Trace in Resolve to copy over grades should the client have many changes.

What will the function do to existing scaling and framing, will it ignore and erase it? If I shoot in 4k and have a 1080 x 1350px timeline and want to zoom onto one character, when would you do it best for the workflow??

As far as color grade work around. Couldn't you use an adjustment node to color grade and copy that node to the other time-line. Wouldn't that carry over all grade nodes and adjustment?

Can I make this also on normal 16:9 footage? (Example, the subject is not in the center, and I have zoom in. Usually I use the Fusion tracking for that, but for small adjustments is that overkill.)

Hi, thanks for this tuto. I was wondering if it was possible to rotate an existing horizontal time line (for KZfaq for instance) by 45° so that it fits to the phone screen. Yes, you would then need to rotate your phone, but at least you would get the original 16:9 movie at the right size. How would you do? Thanks for you valuable advice, knarf from France

You would change your timeline resolution and then use the transform tools to rotate the video.

This is a really cool concept. It doesn't seem to handle more exotic animals particularly well though. Giraffes it just focused on their horns, Zebras it focused on their front legs, a rhino it just focused on their butt. However even if you had to use the reframe target on each shot it still seems like a time saver for generating an alternate aspect ratio version of your project.

Anybody know if it is possible to select all clips and have them all fit or fill? I have some 4K dci and wanted to select my hole timeline and click "fit" or "fill" for Instagram without having the black bars on top and bottom? Thanks for any suggestions....

I believe that is Retime and rescaling in the inspector but I'm sure you have figured it out by now lol I shot a short on 4 different cams 6kpro, A73, MavAir2, GoPro7 and was wondering how to match all the aspect ratios . I shot the main on the 6k 1.85 flat and timeline is at that but was wondering how to get all the other footage there.. I saw a video Before this one that said just do it in inspector retime rescale. What Jay is saying here I'm having a hard time understanding ...and am confused. But definitely want to know how to use this technique to change timeline fur different platforms..

"The kid is going from the right side of the screen to the left side of the screen" ...he really isn't though, he is moving towards the left but the camera is following him so he's kind of in the center the whole time

Who would want to turn a good video into a crappy cellphone format - those tall narrow bands of video are anoying. Teach them that they can rotate their cellphones and produce standard video.
