Sri Yukteswar Giri is the monastic name of Priya Nath Karar, an Indian monk and yogi, and the guru of Paramahansa Yogananda and Swami Satyananda Giri. Born in Serampore, West Bengal, Sri Yukteswar was a Kriya yogi, a Jyotisha, a scholar of the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads, an educator, author, and astronomer.

It is always seven, eighth being nirvana : 1. Patanjali: starting with Yama, niyama etc., 2.vyahruthis: starting with Bhuh Bhuvaha etc., 3. Scales of varna starting with sudrah,vaisya and then going onto Brahmavith, Brahmavithvaran, Brahmawithvareeyan,the eighth or liberation is Thuriya. 4. Gnana bhumikas starting with Subecha,vicharana ..and ending with Thuriya. Thuriya is not a realm like others, it is the totality of everything representing infinity or Zero.
