The Amber Bone Peach Seed Jig handles are the true workhorse of the Case knife brand. I got a 10 dot 71129 Medium Stockman (6318 SS) in a clam pack at Academy, of all places. The amber bone looks amazing and, I've said this before, Case wrote the book on Mirror polishing of blades, So much info I had to watch your video twice. Thanks.
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
No doubt about Case’s Amber bone. And you’re also correct about the mirror polish on the blades.
@checkmatekingtwothisiswhit76852 жыл бұрын
@@KnifeChatswithTobias Thank you sir. I'm thinking Case uses bone that is a higher quality, with classic Rogers jig patterns, polished, expertly torched and dyed . Their folders are clean Inside and out. Blades open/close smoothly no grit in the pivot. The cutters are wrapped in acid-free paper. Look Inside an open Case and see that the steel springs are finished smooth. Rough Ryder definitely has nicer boxes.
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
@@checkmatekingtwothisiswhit7685 , Case has stated that it uses the shin bones of domestic Brazillian Zebu Cattle. This is said to be the strongest and best quality bone of domestic cattle. Most knives coming out of China or Pakistan, just say the bone is domestic cattle. Companies do not specify the bovine species or bone type.

@@KnifeChatswithTobias Good stuff, attention to detail on a mass produced knife -thats what makes Case worth the extra dollars (my personal standpoint). I'm going to follow the leader and purchase some more Case Red Stag. I just got No.09581 Small Pen (R5233 SS). Right after I purchased it the price went up $16.50.

Great collection of stockman! I really wish I had been collecting 10-20 years ago, I missed out on a lot of good stuff! Love that 32 stockman, what a beauty! I have been a fan of the stockman for some time and it’s a pattern that I am collecting. I love Case’s amber bone. They just do it so well. That Sambar stag is really beautiful.
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
Case has some of the prettiest bone you’ll find on a knife. Their Amber Peach Seed Jig is the flagship bone. They make just about everything in it.

@@jeroenvoss6231, they were out of production when I bought it. Turned out I bought it for the original list price and others did have it for more. Can't recall now but I really lucked out! Hey Tobias! Once again, great review! I’m a collector of Case stockman knives. I would love to see Case produce a 3 7/8” carbon steel, square bolster stockman with bone scales in the future! That’s my favorite size stockman. How would I go about putting a request in to Case for such an animal? I’m not sure why they haven’t done that. Only offered in 4 1/4” and 3 5/8”. I’d buy several if they had that offering. Keep up the great work! A joy to watch and listen to.

You're best bet it is to contact them directly. But it wouldn't hurt to also contact some of the biggest sellers of Case knives, Shepherd Hills, SMKW, and Cutlery Corner. It they think it would be a seller, then they will also approach Case. The other thing is to push to the idea on the various knife related Facebook pages that talk Case knives. The more voices, the better the chance that it will happen.

I've got that same jumbo stockman, minus the special shield, and the 18 in black delrin with the punch(per your recommendation.) My feelings for the pattern are kind of like your feelings for the trapper, but there's no denying the utility of having 3 blades at the ready.
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
It’s interesting comparing stockmans to trappers. When I think of Trapper I think of one specific knife, the Case 54, also called the standard trapper. When I think of Stockman, I get a vague picture of a knife with a main blade, normally some kind of clip, then a sheepfoot next to the clip and then some other blade, most likely a spay. But no one specific knife or frame. Same when you say small, medium, large, and jumbo stockman. Just a vague picture but no specific frame or blade option. But if you say Mini-Trapper or Slimline Trapper, the image is crystal clear! The only Stockman that seems clearly defined is probably the Sowbelly.
@slick_slicers2 жыл бұрын
I’ve only two Case Stockmans, a large (4.25”) in cv/yellow delrin, and a medium In amber bone with a pen blade in place of the spay. My others are two spectacular TEWs in desert ironwood and mother of Pearl, and a Solingen made Puma. All great knives, but no stag!
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
In many ways desert ironwood and/or Pearl trumps stag. Especially quality Pearl!
@davidkurle54182 жыл бұрын
Very nice looking stag covers, buddy. If a stockman pattern has a pen blade instead of a spey, is it also called a surveyor pattern? I thought I heard that somewhere but can't remember.
@gizmocarr30932 жыл бұрын
Case often uses special shields and blade stamps on knife patterns. I have an ebony cover Muskrat 2011 stamped 9/11 SS and a small Stockman with red bone and the shield is stamped Case MM; it is a 2000 Millennium model. I have noticed that 2008 Case knives seem to be a good year for Case as quality goes. The Case Stag family you have is growing. ✴🐈✴
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
You’re correct about Case and it’s Shields. Some of them are quite scarce, even! As for Stag, I’m trying to focus on that when it comes to Case. What surprised me was the number and variety of stockmans I accumulated without really trying!
@ThriftyKaniffy2 жыл бұрын
Nice collection of stockmans Tobias. Have you experienced any minor blade rub with these?
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
Yep, minor. Thing is, I’m very much old School with traditional pocket knives. Miner blade rub and blade centering has never been a big deal to me. These days, it’s like the end of the world with some people.

Very nice Stockman's. What do you think of the 6.5 Stag bone they make?
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
Regrettably I do not own any of their stag bone and I have not had the opportunity to inspect it in person. I’ve seen pictures online but those can be deceiving. So, for now, I don’t have an informed opinion.
