Interesting seeing state troopers in the city, usually sit in the area on the free way usually, nice seeing the victoria, but fun fact to anyone actually talking to the troopers myself, they only make tahoes, chargers for troopers now and no longer the explorers or vics, you learn something new every day

The reason NYSP is responding is because any large incidents in the state must have a state police officer on the scene.

@@LittleBunchOfEverything - What are they going to do that the NYPD can't do? Never saw it until Cuomo became Governor. What this is all about is a show of force by Sollozzo against Bill DeBlasio to show him who is really in charge due to their ongoing fued. Shame that troopers are needed in other parts of the state but Cuomo has to play games, sort of like a couple of 3 years olds in a sandbox fighting over a bucket.

State police can and will back up city and county police as needed. If NYPD has a lot of incidents going on then they may request help from other departments. Look at 9/11 for example (an extreme case mind you). City cops had their hands full and state sent in backup. It doesn't matter what department cops work at. There have been multiple times where officers in totally different jurisdictions just happened to hear shots fired calls (we will use that as an example) over the radio and they run code three to help.

No - growing up in NYC in the 90s and 2000s aside from NY State Park Police in the state parks within the city limits seeing a state trooper in NYC limits was rare -Cuomo and Deblasio didnt get along so Cuomo insisted on having his state police boys around the the city limits as a jab to Deblasio - truth - he put Troopers on the intercity bridges and tunnels even tho we had the city owned TBTA police on them - he even had the TBTA police cars repainted in NYS police colors to piss Deblasio off..

It's because of an ongoing feud between Mayor DiBlasio and Governor Cuomo. Like 2 little kids in a sandbox so Cuomo sent more troopers into the city and the rest of NY State suffers because troopers were taken away from other parts of the state.

Everytime I see New York City Police Vehicles including New York State Police Vehicles, I still keep mistaking them for F.D.N.Y. Vehicles because they have the same color lights. I am from New Hampshire & in my hometown of Concord our police vehicles including the unmarked ones are ONLY BLUE LIGHTS & our State Police Vehicles use to be ALL BLUE they are now BLUE & WHITE in the front & RED & BLUE in the back. Our Fire Department Vehicles including the unmarked & Privately Owned Volunteer Vehicles are RED, WHITE & YELLOW LIGHTS. GREEN LIGHTS are Security Vehicles.
