Many men (especially young men) tend to take their hair for granted. Indeed, most guys don’t ever consider the fact that they might go bald at some point in their life, as it isn’t exactly the most comfortable topic to broach. Nevertheless, going bald is a fact of life for some men, and avoiding the inevitable won’t do anything to help one’s style.
The fact is, bald is in now! Embrace it and use it it to your stylistic advantage. The following are five fashion tips that can be helpful for bald men to take into consideration.
1. Go Big or Go Home
It’s not uncommon for men who are balding to try to fight against the tide, whether it be with special shampoos, hairpieces or otherwise. Instead of lying to yourself, take the high road and shave your head completely bald. If you don’t want to go with a complete shave, at least consider keeping your hair to a minimum; a buzz cut can be very effective for balding men.
2. Consider the Baseball Cap
Baseball caps don’t necessarily have to be used to cover up one’s baldness. In fact, they can actually be very flattering when worn by those who are bald; especially when worn with a hooded sweatshirt and distressed jeans for an urban look. Stick with dark baseball caps for best results; black is typically the most versatile, and can serve as a subtle highlight for your face.
3. Rock The Turtle Neck
Turtle neck sweaters aren’t for everyone, but they happen to be ideal for bald men. For whatever reason, the curvature of a shaved head looks fantastic when framed by a turtleneck sweater; especially when worn with khaki chinos or dark-washed jeans. You might also want to try crew neck or v-neck sweaters, both of which can also look good on bald men, and are often more versatile than the turtle neck.
4. Choose Darker Colors
In order to dress effectively when you’re bald, you’ve go to take steps towards providing contrast with your appearance. One of the best ways to do so is to wear darker-colored shirts. Dark, earthy greens, or even black are excellent options for providing contrast between your head and your clothing, and can make even the most monotonous ensemble pop in ways that simply can’t be achieved by those who have a full head of a hair.
5. A Note on Shirt & Tie
If you regularly dress in suit and tie, then consider wearing wide spread collared shirts (aka “cutaway collars), and pair them with a larger, triangular looking tie knot (such as the double Windsor). The large knot and cutaway collared shirt will look perfect in combinations with the curvature of a shaved head. 6. Stay Confident
Perhaps the most important tip that men who are bald or balding can take into consideration is to stay confident about how they dress. Embracing baldness isn’t always easy; especially at first. The fact is, however, confidence comes through and shows in the way one puts themselves together, and its importance should never be underestimated. The more confident you area when stepping out the door in the morning, the more likely it is that you’ll attract all the right kinds of attention.
