I also did not want to watch this movie because of the potential depiction of violent act. Until I came across it randomly and then could not stop watching. It does not focus on the killer, nor the act of violent. It is a well done well develop movie.

It's like Stanley Kubrick came back to life and started making movies again especially after blade runner 2049 and now making dune ( the hardest thing to adapt) kubri k wanted to start making more movies about science fiction. It's why he was going to direct a.i. before he died

Les segments du film Polytechnique sur le personnage de Jean-François, l'étudiant qui n'a pas combattu le tueur aussi héroïquement qu'il ne l'aurait voulu, tout en l'ayant fait pourtant, relate de très tristes faits réels. Au générique de fin, le jeune homme qui a été personnifié est cité avec ses deux parents comme les trois dernières victimes du carnage de Marc Lépine. L'étudiant n'ayant pu surmonter son sentiment de culpabilité s'est suicidé. À sa suite la mère et le père se sont donnés la mort, coupables de n'avoir pas su eux aussi combattre et désarmer le désespoir de leur fils. Tristesse. Une prière pour toutes ces âmes, y compris celle de Marc Lépine.

Denis Villeneuve is my favorit Director, and recently i watched all movies of him, because for school i have to make an essay about him, his films and his directing. Polytechnique is the last one i habe seen( there are two left but both are difficult to come by). I loved your Video so i hope you would come back and finish the Series and also talk about other movies as well

I wish I had the fortitude to watch this. It sounds like a very well done film. But maybe some other day in the future. I really wonder how some filmmakers can take on such heavy stuff like this. I wonder about this a lot.

Fantastic video! Always been hesitant to recommend this movie to online friends, mostly because I wondered if you had to be from Quebec to truly appreciate it.. but that was before watching this retrospective. It's tremendously insightful and eloquent. Would love to see you do part 2,3,4 etc.

I've just been doing a catch up with Denis ouevre myself, so this retrospective was pretty good timing - especially if you're about to drop your Incendies video soon ;). I wonder why you omit covering his first 2 films; 32 of August and Maelstrom? They're both good, the later in particular (very dark but with redemption - made me wonder if he believes in Karma. Or eating animals.). His short films are worth checking out also (all but one are on youtube) I really liked the strange narrative of his very first 94 "documentary"; REW-FFWd.
