That's a pretty cool to see a Federal Signal siren in the uk as lot of the uk sirens are from Klaxon or Castle Castings.

Imagine if the Klaxon CS8s which do the hi-lo signal for escapes near the psychiatric hospitals were replaced with Federal Signal Modulators and the escape signal was alternate wail.

Grew up in Pill listening to this siren on the 3rd of every month for 3 minutes at 3 o clock. It really used to spook me lol.

It is a spooky sound, especially when you hear them sounding in the distance, but attention grabbing none the less

I grew up in Shirehampton and I remember this sound so well. My mother always used to say "if you can still hear the sirens, you're alright". It's no wonder I had anxiety lol.

holy shit an HD video of a servernside siren. just a heads up tho, i think the mic on your camera has a problem. the stereo sound in this video is extremely uneven, i can hear the right ear louder than the left when headphones are on. but other than that this is an absolutely amazing video!

thanks man, i will be upgrading the camera again to a 4K bridge camera so keep an eye out for that, idk whats wrong with the audio, i didn't mess with it at all, i'll try and fix it in the next video.

Just been to Severn Beach to record the siren outside the former AstraZeneca site and unfortunately failed to sound. Some of the reactions I’ve seen when the sirens have sounded is quite amusing, some people just don’t know what to do and think something bad is going to happen, but just turns out it’s just the Police testing them.

@@BritishLifeSafetySystems That's typical, I guess you'll have to wait until next month!. I'm by the Downs, sometimes can't hear them, suppose it depends on the wind direction.

Yeah, wind direction can affect the areas the sirens can be heard, also clouds can even affect the areas the sirens can be heard also.

In Lawrence Weston, Pill and most villages surrounding Bristol have MOD6024s whilst us here in Shirehampton have a DSA6. Why is that?

these are just as affective sound wise as they produce the same DB level as the other sirens its just this is more directional which is use to target the sound to specific areas, these are also modern, made by the same manufacturer as the others in the system

do you plan to record the Klaxon at Redcliffe bay? After the COVID restrictions are lifted obviously. Would be nice to get a video of it before it gets replaced, assuming they keep it working after its failure the other day.

Yes I do plan to record it, I’ve asked some residents where it is on the site, I need to find it first to record it, but I can get access via the coastal path, I’m just trying to see if people know where exactly it is on the site

According to SST, the siren was refurbished, well the array itself, but the control cabinet has had nothing done to it, which is the primary problem here or the radio inside the control cabinet

What kind of controller does that have? It sounds like an ASC controller.

A&RNo.46 it runs on a FS UV Ultravoice controller with custom tones

@@positionlightproductions6187 they can custom tones programmed into the controllers, the system originally had MCP controllers when the system was first installed in 1997, but upgraded to UV in 2013-2014

Doesn't seem very loud even from the sides. Any crackling sound or indication of blown drivers? Seems like it's been around for a while

Justin Lynch I was a bit back from it as I wanted the echo from the siren and the was a Hissing sound from the drivers, it sounded a bit raspy to be honest. There were no blown drivers to my knowledge but were on there way out. The sirens have been in since 1997 and upgraded to UV in 2013

I can see your point, use the infamous air raid tone, but I think this tone is more attention grabbing, but you need a very attention grabbing tone if there were to be a leak from one of the COMAH sites in the area. If there is a chemical leak then your gonna want to know about it and take cover and by using a siren system with a non-standard tone, it’s gonna grab your attention a lot quicker than the standard “air raid” sound

adam clark May I mention that it’s a ‘outdoor warning system’ it’s not meant to be heard indoors, you may hear it indoors if you are close to a siren, but really it’s not meant to wake you up

Thunderbolt the MCP’s were replaced in 2014-2016, it’s now a UV, I’ve got pics of the controller on my insta, I’ve stood next to the controller

no its not, the MCP's were upgraded in 2014/15 for UV Controllers, i got pics of Instagram of the controller on this siren, Its a UV Controller

Thunderbolt one custom tone, the custom tones sounds the same on the UV as it did on the MCP, second, the MCP’s has a slower windup, you can clearly here that the MCP’s was a slightly slower sound
