Seville, capital of Andalusia, Roman, Arab, Renaissance, Baroque, American, Flemish city, city of bulls, modern city, city of celebrations, of light, perfumed city, sailor, traditional, hospitable, funny, cosmopolitan, religious, devoted to the Virgin... All these adjectives and more describe the typical facet of what is considered "Andalusian" or even "Spanish". In addition, it presents an infinity of artistic, cultural, leisure, social and tourist attractions that have made it one of the most universal cities, and the best known and visited in the world, it represents the cradle and place of inspiration for many writers, painters and artists in general.
It seems difficult to find in a big city so many varied and original monuments as well as places of exceptional beauty such as the Giralda, the Cathedral, los Reales Alcázares (the King's castles), the Torre del Oro ( the Golden Tower), el Patio de los Naranjos, the Maestranza, the House of Pilate, the Spanish Steps, the Park of María Luisa, the Theater of the Maestranza, the Palace of San Telmo, the Archivo de Indias , the Barrio de Santa Cruz, la Lonja, the Archdiocese, the Tobacco Factory, the Town Hall, the Palace of las Dueñas, the Don Fadrique Tower, the Walls, the Basilica of the Macarena, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Alameda de Hércules, the Triana district, the Guadalquivir bridges, the Charterhouse and the installations of Expo 92, the buildings of the 1929 Exposition, the House of Luca de Tena, the patios of its traditional houses, balconies and window bars, a large number of churches, convents and other elements that turn its historic center into an open-air museum.
Moreover, with its bars, its gastronomy, its parties and the sense of humor and hospitality of its inhabitants, Seville constitutes a whole filled with colors, light, music, cheerfulness, and at the same time dramatic. , traditional and modern, hard to match.
Seville Cathedral :
The Holy, Metropolitan and Patriarchal Cathedral Church of Santa María de la Sede y de la Asunción de Sevilla; better known as Seville Cathedral, it is a Gothic-style Catholic temple. UNESCO declared it in 1987, together with the Real Alcázar and the Archivo de Indias, a World Heritage Site and, on July 25, 2010, an Asset of Outstanding Universal Value. In 1988 the Guinness Book of Records certified that it was the largest cathedral in the world.
According to tradition, construction began in 1401, although there is no documentary evidence of the start of work until 1433. The building was built on the site that remained after the demolition of the old Aljama mosque in Seville, whose minaret (the Giralda ) and patio (Patio de los Naranjos) are still preserved.
One of the last important works carried out took place in 2008 and consisted of the replacement of 576 ashlars that made up one of the great pillars that support the temple, with new stone blocks with similar characteristics, but with much greater resistance. This difficult work was possible thanks to the use of innovative technological systems that showed that the building suffered daily oscillations of 2 cm as a result of the expansion of its materials. In 2017 it received 1,934,373 visitors, making it the most visited monument in Spain.
