No matter if you Sew to Sell, or are making gifts for your loved ones, these reversible double oven mitts are a great project for everyone to enjoy. They’re very easy to make, and look great with both the contrast band, or just the two colours.
Below is the materials list, and if you’d like added protection from heat, you can double the batting fabric used. Likewise, if you don’t have access to Insulbrite, you can use two layers of wool or cotton batting with success.

My daughter asked me to make her a double oven mitt, even sending me an image of one. In looking at different YT channels, I liked your mitts and that it was reversible. I used fabric from an old embroidered dress of my mother’s (who passed a few years back) knowing that my daughter would be the only one to appreciate it. I FaceTime’d her and showed her the end result and she began to cry. Thank you for making this possible.

Yay, no binding! Many others use binding on their double oven mitts, but when sewing to sell, that extra time takes away from profit or you have to increase your price. Thank you!

I think the oven mitt with the contrast color is classier looking. Thank you soooo much for the lesson. I did notice on the floor where your going to make regular oven mitts. I make a lot of those. There is an Accut die cutter for cutting them out. It does make that part faster and easier. God Bless you ma’am.

I like the one with the yellow band the best. However, I like them both. I have been needing one for these for years; and, now that I'm a senor citizen, I really need one of these to safely lift my hot dutch ovens, roasting pans, and cookie sheets without getting burned badly again. I was wondering why you did not quilt this before finishing it? Quilting would be hard to do on the finished mitt. Will the batting stay together through washings? I'm not planning to make and sell these; but, they will make perfect gifts for many friends, former co-workers, teachers, and kin who really need them. Thank you so much for this greatly needed instructional video.
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Arvetta. I didn't quilt this because I usually sew to sell and it keeps my labour costs down, and to make the project easier for beginners. I have an old one in my kitchen that I've used for years and wash it regularly, the batting has held up very well there. 😄🙂

Hi Christine. I love these and particularly like the contrast. I love the way teach. Im learning so much from you. You just make it so easy. I have one question if thats ok. I've searched our local spotlight store (Perth) and it doesn't sell insulbrite. Can you use any wadding for this, or does it have to be heatproof or something. Thanks so much for always sharing what your up to, and especially for the tutorials. Your a little diamond. Happy Easter xxx

@ChristinesHomeAffairs 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lorraine. Happy Easter to you too. Spotlight should sell Insul-Brite, but you can use cotton or wool wadding instead. I'd use two layers of each. If you want to use the Insul-brite, I've added it to my website, but wadding will work 😀

I enjoy you videos very much. So very precise and informative. I plan to make several of your sewing projects and sell them in a small booth I rent in a mall craft shop. I am wondering if the fabric you are using to make the double oven mitt is 100% cotton or can you use a cotton blend? Thanks
@ChristinesHomeAffairs

That's great Reba. You're going to be very busy. Cotton is best to use, particularly when around heat. I accidentally used poly Cotton blend on another, and fabric melted whilst ironing😆

Ukrainian colours for sure 😀 Is the Insul-brite available at Spotties or Lincaraft that you know of? I've done a quick search with that name and nothing comes up on their search engines. If not, what is a alternative that might be as good from there? When you mentioned 'vintage fabric' can you define that for me please? Thanks. Love this project. Once I get that insulation sorted I will go through my stash and see what I have.

What a great observation Kerry. I hadn't realised the colours. I think Spotlight should sell insulbrite as they deal with the same supplier as me. If you can't get it, I can add it to my website if you wanted to order it. Alternatively, you can use will or cotton wadding. Just use two layers of each😀

Christine, I have a question about insulation materials, not the heat kind but the cooling kind. Our Coles cold bags are about at better days, and the new ones they have are smaller than the ones we currently have, so I am thinking to make 'tote bags' and line them and put a zipper around the top - talk about adventurous! - do you know what I need to ask for at either Spotlight or LIncraft as far as that shiny liner is concerned? Thank you.
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs 2 жыл бұрын
Kerry, I'm not sure what Spotlight would call it, or even if they have this product. I could only find Legacy insulated wadding on their website. I have a couple of Aldi cooler bags that have completely perished that I plan on recovering in a video soon. Next time I speak to my rep, I'll ask if he knows of a product 😀
