Thank you for your review. I am a smidge behind you in sewing athletic wear. I should be done before it gets too cold to wear the hot weather shorts and tops. They should be done this weekend. I don't get why you do not have more subscribers. You are pleasant, informative, jovial, and a great seamstress. Keep it up.

You are just cute as a button! Watched the tops yesterday. Love the princess seam one. If I wasn't buried in boxes, I would totally want to make some active wear right now. Thanks for all the pics of you wearing these garments. Love to see the garments on a real, live person!

The fabric switch wasn't a mistake...that's a design feature! Such great looks and great bottoms. I think I need to invest in the Greenstyle Stride pattern...a full length, an ankle length, a capri (with a criss-cross option, too), AND a shorts length view, too? And pockets?!? And a gusset?!? These seem like "the answer" to all athletic bottom needs! Thank you for sharing all this!

I agree that it was a happy mistake! It gives them more attitude 😉. Yes, the Stride Leggings would answer pretty much any athletic bottom request! It’s a great pattern!

The blue garments are my favorite, too. Such a fun print with the solid accent. Your creativity amazes me. And the final pair in the wild print look great, too--all of it does, really. I wouldn't have had the courage to attempt it! I'd have bought the fabric and then been afraid to touch it.

😂 buying nice fabric and then being scared to cut it is a real problem! I have quite a few pieces like that. Maybe we need to do a courage challenge where we all cut and sew one piece of “scary” fabric!

In your opinion, Why are some fabrics are hotter than others? Obviously weight is a component, but some poly’s are “ wicking”. Gusset girl here! Gussets all the way. As a tennis player, I high recommend Jalie Loulouxe skort.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 4 жыл бұрын
I will totally take a look at that pattern! I was also looking at Jalie’s tennis dress. I think I could make that golf appropriate as well! As far as “hot” fabrics, the polys are the worst offenders. However, it really depends on how they are woven. If they are woven to be wicking, they are great for athletic wear. It can definitely get a bit confusing.

I made one pair of knee length stretch pants for my daughter. Then life got busy, and last week we found some fabrics at Joann’s. Now I need to find a bit of time to cut another with some alterations. The area around the knee is baggy, she has big calves. But I am looking forward, they do go together quickly. Maybe put a pocket in the waist band? I have seen that done in ready to wear.
@TomKatStitchery

A pocket in the waistband is a definite possibility. I have seen that in quite a few leggings patterns as well!

Thank you Whitney! I am cutting out a pair of Super G tights from Greenstyle Creations. I bought the Zen fabric from The Fabric Fairy. I also bought mesh fabric to make the sides and pockets. Looks like a quick make!

Thank you for recommending Fabric Fairy. I need to wear long sleeved swim shirts when I do my daily water exercises. (Rasher guard shirts per my dermatologist. ) I used swimwear fabric from Joann Fabric this spring and it is not holding up well. The swimwear fabric from Fabric Fairy is much better quality and should have a longer life. Thank you!

Polyester active wear, though not as stretchy, holds up many times better in chlorine. Learned that when my kids did swim team.

You make such beautiful pieces - and they all look great on you. Besides the activewear, I also love the top you wore in the video. Found the pattern online, but by chance do you remember where you got the beautiful blue fabric you used for the top? Linda

Whitney, could you comment on the stitch you used for all the seams in the leggings? Is it a four thread serged seam? Did you have any trouble with them pulling apart? I find even with the left needle really tight it still pulls a little bit. Thanks for this video, hopefully it will inspire me to start on my own pair!
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 4 жыл бұрын
I do use a 4 thread serged seam for all my activewear. When stretched tight, it does pull a bit, but I just use a matching thread in the far left needle so it doesn’t show. Knock on wood, I’ve never had an issue with a seam popping!

Hi there Whitney, thanks for your legging review, it's really helpful. Your legging look fab on you. I wonder if you could explain how you chose your sizes for the Avery leggings and the Stride leggings please. I've just taken a look at the patterns and I'm baffled about how to choose the right size for leggings with negative ease.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 4 жыл бұрын
On garments with negative ease, I just pick a size based off their size chart (as opposed to the finished measurements). The negative ease can get confusing so I usually just trust that the size chart will put me in the right size and it usually does!

Loving your activewear makes! Could you possibly move your camera a little closer when you model your garments so we could see them better? There is so much of the door frame and wall above you. Thanks for considering this request.

I have both of those patterns and love the Strides! With the Avery, I used a supplex with not enough stretch and had a lot of issues with getting them on. How would you select a size when the Avery asks for 70% four way stretch but your fabric is only 50% four way stretch? Or would you just pass on that fabric?
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 4 жыл бұрын
I had a similar issue with my Averys. This fabric didn’t quite have enough vertical stretch and they are a bit harder to get on. I think for future pairs, I will make sure and just use fabric that has plenty of vertical stretch. My daughters had enough and worked great.
