Coming over from lady Rebecca's channel, and OMG marking quadrants with contrast stitches rather than pins is pure genius. The extra 5 seconds it's gonna take to put in a stitch is gonna save me sooo much grief. Liked and subscribed

I needed something to distract me today from having a high anxiety day. Thank you for giving me such a beautiful escape that I needed. It turned out lovely and I think that when I get back to my sewing room I might make myself an insertion lace summer skirt because it is really speaking to me.

My favorite era of clothing. I think that's why I loved the 1970's styles of the more modern days. Love the subtle pinstriping in it as well. Thanks so much.

Lovely spring skirt and lovely model and landscape. I like making insertion lace blouses and am planning another white dress for spring. Have to finish my 1840 morning dress first.

One of the next projects on my list is a matching shirt with insertion lace for this outfit! I'm hoping a shirt will be a bit less taxing since it isn't miles and miles of lace 😅

Love how the skirt turned out. One little suggestion with the reveal tho--maybe get more footage from the front next time? I kept wanting to study all the work you did on the front panel and waiting for good shots of it lol

Your skirt turned out beautifully. So fluffy and looks delightful for a summer’s day. This was a very timely video for me as I’m about to embark on a lingerie dress. I’ve been gathering vintage lace for about a year now and think I finally have enough to be getting on. I’ve got to pull out a few of my extents to see how they treated the raw edges of the insertion as my 1905 treadle doesn’t do zigzag.

Ooh that is good timing! I suspect originals were either hand hemmed (I can't imagine the amount of work that would take 😩) or were just trimmed and left raw. I know a lot of the fabrics were more tightly woven than ours are today so they would hold up better.

You can also pink the edges after sewing down with a straight edge.

@@DamesalaMode I’ve had a look at one of my extents and you are correct that they just left the edges raw. The fabric is the most beautifully woven sheer linen (I think). It has some slight fluffiness to the edges, but that’s it. If I tried that with the fabric I have on hand it would be a disaster!

@@bellysouk I thought about that, but my pinking shears are huge and some of my lace is tiny. Do they make itty bitty pinking shears? I guess I’m off to search the interwebs to find out! Thanks for the suggestion!

Sort of 😁. This is the dress version that Wearing History offered ready made several years ago! So yes, it's kind of that pattern but no I didn't make it!

It's an old Singer - not sure of the model type. Something very basic! I've had it for nearly 20 years!

No way! I am one of the rare people who hates pockets in my clothes, especially skirts like this! Totally interrupts the line of the hips and drags them down!
