These were really good. I would add a wooden tailors clapper or a tailors point presser to the list. Or both. The clappers start around $10 and the point presser and/or tailors board around $70, they go up from there depending on the wood used etc. Another cool thing is a holder for your tailors ham.

I think you have come up with some fantastic suggestions in your video. May I suggest that rather than buying a specific fabric, especially for beginners, you gift that lucky person a voucher to go and select fabric or other notions from a high-end, swanky shop where they can let their imagination 💭 run wild. ❤❤❤

i made a hem measuring tool out of index cards…thought i was so clever…then i discovered you can buy them! 😂😂 mine arrived two days ago…ANYTHING that makes it easier to complete a project is worth considering…even if it seems expensive…usually it’s a one time purchase… you go through life ONCE, treat yourself, you DESERVE it!

Hi Claire! The jumper really suits you! I really enjoyed listening to you again. Am on a car park waiting for my daughter and really appreciating the wait 😂 About 10 years back I bought the Lidl ironing press and it’s still going strong. It must’ve cost 60-80€. I know it’s not the same quality but for fabrics and 5 shirts a week for my husbands use it really does the job.

I had a sewing teacher at college who recommended Ginghers. 40 years ago.. I still have them. I had them sharpened once because they were dropped. They are an awesome pair of go to scissors, but they are a little heavier than most. . I also have (we have to have more than one pair of scissors) some that I got as a recommendation from a KZfaqr and they are from a brand called Kai. They are not heavy and they are super sharp-maybe scary sharp-which I adore. I probably use them the most. They are a little easier on my hands than the Ginghers. Both of them have traveled with me all across the USA and the Atlantic ocean and the Arabian desert so they are very recommendable.

I find my ginghers super light (when compared with my pro shears) but never really loved them as they were pretty stiff (need oiling). For what they cost they were okay but glad I have my pro shears.

I waited until I was almost 60 to invest in decent shears. (How dumb was that?!?) With some arthritis setting in, I ordered Kai 9-1/2" dressmakers shears as a "Merry Christmas to me" and two weeks later my sister gifted me a pair of Ginghers. I find both incredibly sharp and my arthritic hands appreciate being able to switch from one to the other as they put stress on different muscles and parts of my hands when in use. I do prefer the Kai ($25 U.S.), but being able to switch is a wonderful luxury I'd bet have thought of. Kai does make professional shears. They are around $75, a very reasonable luxury splurge. (Kai manufacturing owns Shun - those REALLY pricey/highly sought kitchen knives. Kai understands sharp tools!)

one of the best gifts ever was a book titled: Sewing Machine Reference Tool: Troubleshooting Guide to Loving Your Sewing Machine, Again. By Bernie Tobish. It gave me confidence. Figuring out problems was half of the repair. You are a touch of sunshine in our lives. Thank you.

So many great ideas and I’ve already have some of them in my supply chest. One of my all time favorite gifts is my Gingher shears- they were a limited edition with fancy floral on white on the handles. Had them for years and still work like brand new. On another note, your hair looks really cute and your sweater makes me smile. 🧑‍🎄

i think i’m going to start taking pictures of gifts, i can’t remember what i’ve made year to year, i do have a notebook to record the details, but i have another notebook to take notes while watching sewing videos…i note the title and who’s channel….it’s really helpful to use the information…and i’m able to watch it again if needed.

Fantastic video. Definitely a fantastic book! Love her first one, I have this one on order for me. Checking it out for a granddaughter who might be 5 foot and is not an hour glass figure. I want to make sure this would be good for her. Another lady that does not design for Twiggy is Mimi G. Her book is also very good.

I bought some of those Magic Pins, although I have the really thin ones and they are only short length as I was sewing something fine and wanted to replace my old lingerie and lace pins which I could not pick up. I will be ordering some more in a thicker gauge and longer as they are very easy to pick up ( I have slightly shaky hands).

I’ve been eyeing a mug warmer on Amazon. My tea seems to go cold before I finish while I’m sewing so this would be kind of practical for me. The ones I saw were around $15-20.

The small snips would not work for me or my mom. Arthritis does a number on fingers and knuckles, we have to have large finger holes. I bought some kid scissors that have large finger holes, they work great. I love my blue flexible ruler, use it a lot. I bought one of those Clover mini irons, neet for a quick press at the sewing machine, I made a 12in square pad so I could have it right there by me. I have too many sewing machines lol. 14 machines and 2 sergers, both of the sergers were bought new. All of my machines were second hand, mom gave me hers when she upgraded and the rest I picked up at thrift shops or the side of the road or Etsy and EBay. I’m thinking about getting one of those my size dress dummies you sew yourself, just have to save money for the custom fit pattern. I have one of those expandable ones, don’t like it much. I have my grandma’s dressmaking shears and her pinking shears, both heavy and I treasure them and keep them in ship shape 😊 Books are awesome ❤ I have so many lol
