About a year ago I did a full room makeover complete with new furniture. The Brother card reader has been spoken for and is gone.
Here are links (non-affiliate) to Ikea for the furniture I have.

You are SO RIGHT! It takes time. Moved 6 months ago from over a 3,000 sq ft home and downsized to half that space. Got rid of a lot, but I still have A LOT. Giving myself six more months to get the sewing hobbies under control. Love your blog and your spirit. I'm also in tune with you by watching blogs by Joy and Viv Mom. It's ALL GOOD! This is was Great... Thanks for the tour. Yes, ideas are flowing for when I can get back in my own home with ROOM for my sewing. lolol.... currently working out of a bedroom at my son and families home. Had to Scale wayyyyyy back to fit just the major things needed to do some sewing. Have a tiny storage unit in the basement of the building - not easy to get to when your disabled but I manage. Have tubs of fabrics all sorted but colors and themes. Need to start making a lot of scrappy quilts to donate or as baby gifts etc. Its just hard when your not in your own home and space is Very Limited so some of your ideas I might be able to use. Thanks.

Thank you for the tour of your sewing haven. I have too much sewing items--machines, serger, fabric, tools ,chest of drawers of threads, etc) that the converted bedroom does not contain it all. I do need to organize but then I probably would not be able to find what I needed. I have room to sew so I guess that is all that is important.

I have rubbish bins all over the place too. Mine are 2 litre (1 quart) ice cream containers. My husband says he eats the ice cream so that I can have tubs to store sewing supplies in. I use the 4 litre tubs as storage and the 2 litre tubs for rubbish or holding yarn when the ball wants to run away.

I just don't have computerized. You sure have many machines. I'm a pre-cut woman myself. Most of the patterns I design are specifically for pre-cuts. Love your sewing room. I’m still in a bedroom with a Longarm on a HQ Little Foot frame. I am also a precut person. I can make quilts for years without ever buying new fabric/precuts, I have so much. For the last few months, I have tried to only buy if I need it for an existing project. I also have trash cans at the sewing machine and cutting table plus a thread “gift” bag by my Longarm. One day, I hope to convince my husband to let me swap my sewing room and master bedroom, but so far, no go. Keep the videos coming, I look forward to them.

Becky I enjoyed your tour. Especially like the cutting table and your line up of sewing and embroidery machines. I'm thinking about an embroidery machine OR a Brother Scan N Cut. Can't decide which I want the most. When looking at your long arm I couldn't tell if you are using the red snappers to put your quilts on the frame or not. If you're not you should sure give them a try. They will cut your time in more than half for getting your quilts on the frame. I use iron-on batting tape to put leftover pieces of batting together. Then I use those pieces for baby quilts, table runners, placemats, and throw pillows. We've even used the larger pieces that I've put together for throws. I use smaller pieces for one layer of a hot pad with a layer of ultra brite.

I LOVE my Red Snappers! I didn't point them out but they are right next to the first set of Alex drawers in that mailing tube I covered with cute cat fabric. :) Between the two, I'd take the SNC. I do enjoy embroidery, but I hate cutting more. lol

Great sewing room. I have the same first door you showed including the doggie door (mine needs to be replaced). I'm having trouble trying to decide which room I'm going to fix up as my sewing room so I've been watching sewing room tours to get ideas. I have some of my sewing in my basement but when I broke my foot three machines were moved into my very small office. I'm seriously thinking of moving the office/sewing into the spare bedroom then making the small office into the spare bedroom that hardly ever gets used. I would have more room if I went back to the basement I could use a quarter of the basement. Half of it set up a training for my dogs. I just don't know!
@PowerToolsWithThread

My advice is to utilize your rooms according to the amount of time spent in them vs. what the master house blueprint says. Jean Truelove just downsized and she took over the formal living room for her sewing room because the new house has a family room that will have the TV, couches, lounging, etc. My husband took over my old sewing room so now our guest room is in my 41ft 5th wheel RV outside. Works fabulously!
@2Peachcobler
@2Peachcobler 4 жыл бұрын
Power Tools with Thread Agreed. I've watched Jean Truelove downsizing. Ha Ha her downsizing is 2.5 X's my house. I may not have a large RV but I do have a 14' travel trailer so that could be a spare bedroom (except during the winter, it's covered) . I'd love the space of the basement but I love the windows in the bedroom. Have a nice Sunday.

One really cheap idea I got from someone else is to go to or your local pizza place and ask them for some clean boxes sometimes they'll charge you five or $0.10 or something but lots of times I get them for free. If you're doing a project, especially a monthly kind of thing you can put your blocks in there and keep them piled up out of the dust
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 4 жыл бұрын
That's a GREAT idea! I'd have to cut windows in the edges and top and then tape clear vinyl to the back of the "windows" so I could keep track of what's where. Thank you for sharing that. That's a great solution for those who can't or don't want to afford fancy plastic boxes.

I don't think a Texan liking armadillos is at all weird. I'm a Washingtonian with a collection of armadillo items, from a tiny button to a vintage armadillo hide handbag. They're odd and whimsical. How can someone not like them? Thanks for the tour. You've done a terrific job organizing!

Ms. Thompson; Just ran into your site at the tour episode. Thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. Watched a later one also. You have a venturing spirit to try almost anything in sewing. Glad you got the 10 needle; table tops are a nuisance. Yes, they are more sewing machines that embroidery. Do you use the light weight stabilizer? I've used it a long time. Stabilizer is available and more economical from Amazon. Thanks for sharing the websites.

@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 4 жыл бұрын
Ha! Me too! I've become quite the "Frankenbatter". lol I will use 505 spray on the backing and piece the batting strips into wall hangings or other small projects. I don't sew the strips together ahead of time because the quilting takes care of that. I just have to create a smooth rotary cutter line on the batting, spray the backing, and then make sure the edges line up exactly. When quilted, you can't tell the difference.

Oh gosh, that's a Kona solids sampler panel from Robert Kaufman fabrics. I use it all the time to find the right color when ordering online. I looked around online and most were sold out. Keep looking and I'm sure one will pop up on Etsy somewhere. Thanks!

Hi thanks for the info on your video. I ordered the shelf that you have under your table now I can't wait for it to come in. My question is what was that brother thing that you x said you would mail it to who ever needed it. It looks so familiar.

Great room. You can get a lot done there. Which Janome serger do you have? Is it an air jet?

Becky, Could you tell me where you get the ?Aurifil Reel containers? Love the cutting table.

I get most of my thread boxes from Hobby Lobby. They have an Options line of boxes that fit the Aurifill thread spools perfectly in height and width. My bobbins fit very well in the ArtBox containers that I also got at Hobby Lobby. Thanks for watching!

Love love your sewing room. Only wish my room was that organized. U said your husband made your ironing clapper was there any certain kind of wood he used? I loved your way for storing your quilting rulers. Will be showing that to my husband. Thanks Janice

You just need to make sure it's a hard wood and untreated. You don't want chemicals steaming into your fabrics. A child's wooden building block works well too if you can find one that is unpainted.

Wow! That's quite the space. You could open a store with all the neat items you have. You have it organized well and seems to be an efficient use of space. My only suggestion would be to sell some of the extra machines (specifically sergers) that you may have or duplicates of quilting rulers or other supplies. You could use that money for other needed items. Just a thought. I love your non-sewing related items that make you smile. I've done the same in my sewing room. I'm so jealous that you have the Luminaire on loan. When do you have to send it back? I've never heard of a store loaning such an expensive piece of equipment. Maybe they will make you a smoking deal if you'll just keep it? Have a good week!

Hey Kristi, I try to keep only one of each item like my rulers unless I determine I need another one at our coastal home. I really have 3 sergers because I have another Brother 1034D down there. The Janome was my 2nd one and it broke thread constantly and I couldn't thread it so I gave up and bought the 2nd Brother 1034 ($199 at Walmart). Now the Janome has been serviced and sits as a spare if the 1034 ever needs to go into the shop. Doubtful though because I've had my first one for 15 years and it's never needed to be serviced. I love that machine. I may sell it, we'll see. Allbrands was very smart to loan me the Luminaire - they've made 3 sales that I'm aware of from my viewers. It's not uncommon for dealers to loan out equipment as a marketing tool. Allbrands has been great with me and I always send everyone to them because they are family owned and take such great care of their customers. :)

I love your ironing board. What is it covered with?

Thank you! My husband upholstered it for me. The top is layered like this: (starting from the bottom) a layer of 80/20 cotton batting, a thin sheet of clear vinyl as a moisture barrier from iron steam, a layer of thin poly batting, a layer of silver heat proof material like you'd use on an ironing board, and the outer layer is backing fabric I got from Connecting Threads. Here's a link to the heat proof fabric. I cut it up to make the size I needed - amzn.to/3aMDp3K The Hemness dress is perfect for this because the top is wood and took the upholstery stapes nicely.
