Hey there! Thank you for joining me today as I show you how I have made a corner of my bedroom function as a great sewing space. I look forward to upgrading to a full sewing room in the next few months, but this space has functioned super well for me while I've been in it. Let me know what your favorite sewing room feature is in the comments! Please like this video if you enjoyed it; it really means so much!

It's so nice to see how other people manage smaller sewing spaces, as it gives us all ideas on how to organize. I have a quilt and cut (or whatever it's called), too, and that is such a space saver! I have not done well with keeping my supplies limited, and dream of a day that I can have everything in the same room, but that will mean my kids have gone off to college, so I guess I can wait a little longer! :D

It is really hard to not buy things when there is a good sale going! I'm trying to remember that there will always be more sales, but also I'm convinced that I have more space for patterns soooooo I may as well grab one or two when they're on sale, of course. Having your boys home is definitely worth the sacrifice, and that dream sewing room will happen one day! :)

Hi Erin, Your sewing space is so organized and It is yours and it's working for you. I keep a dry erase board in front of me when I do my Friday Sews video because I have a hard time remember what I have done during the week when I'm sitting in front of my camera or I should say my phone. I have a room for my sewing Ani also have all of my hair supplies in makeup, when I do wear makeup in the same room. I'm slowly downsiving to make up and use in that space for my sewing supplies. Have a great, blessed day today and happy sewing. 😊

Hey Zelda! The white board idea is a great once! In my new sewing room I’m hoping to have an area to put patterns for future plans and a board to write reminders on too. I swear my brain exits my head via my mouth as soon as I open it lol. It sounds like you have a great space, and you’re making it even more functional! I know you’ve talked about moving some things around and opening up desk space. I’d love to see a tour when you get it to a point that you’re happy with! Thank you for watching Zelda!

I am a dining room quilter! Fabric storage in the basement in totes. Cutting space on my built in buffet, and one of those three tier carts (I think mine was from JoAnns though). Plus another larger cart for the current project storage. I can literally set up in 10 minutes and tear down in 15 (due to having to sweep the floor free of threads and crumbs). I mostly quilt these days and the only thing I'd really like to have is a design wall of some kind. (Right now I do layout next door in the living room on the rug LOL). Your space is very well thought out!

It sounds like you have a great system going! I do actually really like that a smaller space (or a shared space) forces me to be more organized and have good systems. I just got me new sewing room set up and am really going to prioritize keeping the systems that I developed because having a clean work area really helps me while sewing. I also lay out on the floor- something about the bird's eye perspective just helps the creative juices! Plus, I don't have a design wall either hahaha. Thank you for watching!

I loved seeing your space! You've done a great job making use of your space. Don't get a smaller cutting mat! 😄 I didn't know about the metal bar that measures the stitching line. I think I have one of those but didn't know what it was. I also love the idea of using bottles for storage. I have tons of those! Thank you for sharing! I'm in TX too!

Thank you! It was fun to share my space. It’s a nifty gadget that makes quilting equal lines muchhh easier. You do have to check the spacing pretty regularly though because it has potential wiggle. Yeah I was pretty pleased with myself for thinking of using those bottles! I’ve held onto them for months because I didn’t want to just recycle them and sure enough, inspiration struck one day! Brady also has a few with rice in them, and there are lot empty ones waiting to be used for something. Somehow I ended up with so many! I hope you’re staying somewhat cool, it’s been way too hot in this state since basically May 🥵 Happy Sewing, Melanie! Thanks for commenting!

Hi Erin! You did such a great job of fitting all those things in a small space! Can’t wait to see what you do with your dedicated sewing room (so exciting!). I really liked the linen shelving for your fabric storage (wish I had that!). Also the dresser from your mom makes great storage for all those notions! (and what wonderful sentimental value ❤ - maybe you will even pass it on to your daughter when she is older 😊)

I really like the linen closet for my fabric too! I have a more hanging clothes closet in the new room, but I'm hoping to stick some sort of shelves in there and recreate what I have now. Funnily enough my Mom said she used the same set of drawers to store notions at one point too. There's a few other matching pieces including a toddler sized chair and a toy chest, so Brady is already getting to enjoy those. I definitely hope to pass all of it along to her one day 🥰

Thank you for sharing your current sewing space. I am lucky enough to have a dedicated area in our basement for my stuff, but I also sew in the camper so I understand small spaces and it is nice to see how the flow works for others. I too started on my dining room table to it was set up and tear down for every meal. You will love having your own sewing room at the new house! 💜

Hi Angie! How is the lighting in your sewing room? I'm a bit worried about the fact that my new room doesn't have any windows. Another viewer gave me info about a lightbulb her husband put in her sewing room that mimics natural light, so I'll definitely be doing that, but I'm looking to crowd source as many ideas as I can! It seems like the dining room table stage is a rite of passage for most of us. It makes you really appreciate being able to leave a project OUT for more than a day!

@@ErinSews I have an old halogen floor lamp that shines up n the ceiling and illuminates the room. I also have an ott desk lamp that I use at my machines. I have the long fluorescent lights above my cutting table in another room. The light from the ceiling fixture isn’t enough. It is very dim.

I loved seeing your sewing space! The chest your mom made for you is awesome! You have things organized so well I think you’ve done a great job keeping things in your side of the room. For many years I used the corner of a bedroom and the dining room table. Looking forward to seeing your sewing room when you move! Thank you for sharing your space with us! ❤

Thank you! We have a few other pieces that she did to go along with it and it’s really cool to still be using furniture that I grew up with. Using a shared space has definitely forced me to be organized, and it’s so much easier to focus on sewing when I know where everything is. I’m decently confident I can keep it up even when I have a whole room to myself, but we’ll see 😬 Thank you for watching!

Nice use of space! Now that it’s just my husband and me in a four bedroom house, I am using a bedroom that used to be my office when I worked from home as a telephone triage nurse for an insurance company. It’s 9x11. But, like you, I also paint! I have a table with my brushes and water jars (I paint in acrylics). All of my paint is in the closet. And I also have a large easel. So, one corner is devoted to painting and the rest of the room is for sewing machines, fabric, patterns, a printer and my cutting table I just got last month. Yes, you can do a lot with a small space! And yes, Grace’s sewing studio is fabulous!! I enjoy your channel. Take care!

That sounds like a wonderful space! I'm really hoping to pull my painting supplies out and have them more accessible in my next room because I really do miss it- especially my watercolors. What kind of cutting table did you get, and how do you like it? Thank you for watching Nancy, and thank you for your work in healthcare! I've definitely called the triage nurse quite a few times and it is always so nice to have someone that can objectively and professionally assess what is going on.

Erin, you have done well in your home to incorporate your sewing space. Like you, we are going to be moving (our new home is being built) We are downsizing from a 4 bedroom to a 3 bedroom. So hubby says I get the *extra* bedroom for my crafting area. Problem is I had a craft room and a sewing room....so major decluttering going on so I can fit both into one bedroom!
@ErinSews
@ErinSews 11 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching, and leaving a comment! Combining two rooms of crafting and sewing supplies is a tall order! Hopefully the new extra bedroom is a big one 😳 I’ve been going through things too and sometimes I’m willing to donate half of our belongings because we don’t use them, and the other times I want to hold onto them “just in case.” We can do it though! New spaces and new homes are so exciting- congratulations on your new home!

I also sew in my bedroom and it also has a ton of dead space. I keep my patterns and fabric in the guest bedroom, but I'm slowly migrating more into my bedroom. I'm able to keep a sewing table, cutting table, and cart in here easily at the moment.

It sounds like you’ve been able to make a really functional space for yourself! Maybe the builders knew we’d be able to do something with all this dead space 😂 Thank you for watching! It’s cool to hear about your space since it’s so similar to mine.

I have a 12x14 beautiful room I love BUT, I am injured right now and can’t climb the stairs. I would like to bring down my machines to my 9x11 bedroom so I can at least make some things. I’m not sure I can make it work. I love what you’ve done with your space. At 73 I can’t cut on the floor and it gets complicated.

I’m so sorry that you’re injured! I hope the recovery is going well! I previously did a lot of cutting on my dining room table. It’s a little lower than I’d prefer but definitely higher than the floor! It did mean clearing off my dining room table regularly, but that’s probably a good thing 😂
