Two more tips to add to the pile: understitch - where appropriate, it always improves the look and finish of a garment. Secondly, use a walking foot. It takes a while to get used to but if you are sewing knits, slippery or fine fabric it is a lifesaver!
@asewinglife3 ай бұрын
Oh they’re both excellent tips. Thank you. I’ve never used a walking foot before
@desireeretiree15 күн бұрын
Totally agree. In a perfect world we would all have a heavy duty needle feed machine. But a walking foot on a domestic machine is a close second.... Understiching too, where possible, is a great idea 😊

Thank you for putting this together! I love that so many of the sewists gave multiple tips. I have learned quite a few really good ideas that I intend to use. I have a tip that I saw on a Sewing With Nancy episode years ago. Even Nancy Zeiman had not heard it before. When you wash your fabric, if you cut off the 4 corners first, the woven fabric will not shred. I've used this tip for years.

Thank you for all the tips most of them we all learn and overcome after many years, but there is always something new to learn. My best tip is when you get to that point when you just can’t fathom how to do something, I sit back and ask God to help me and I say Jesus if you haven’t got time can you send me someone there who can tell me how to do it and before I know it I’ve done it. It amazes me every time. 🙏

Great video!!! I learned a few new things. My favorite is the overlocker unpicking, the cuff that loses bulk when you snip half thru so you can divide the seams to flatten it. Lastly using the fabric at the back of the neck to create and interfacing and tack it down. Also...making a mock up from cheaper fabric that can be worn might make me actually do it. Serging fabric edges before washing is something I learned before, but glad it was included because it is so important to know that tip. TFS

When my passed I got her sewing and craft items. One of the items was a medium sized Crochet Hook. I now use it as a point turner and remember my Mom as well. Another use for a small crochet hook is to bring the Serger Tails back onto itself in the seam. Works like a charm!!! Crochet hooks are softly pointed with a hook that is so useful in sewing.put the hook about in inch from the fabric edge, grab the tail and pull it thru the stitches.
