bernina Foot 20 blanket stitch appliqué

Here I am using the open toe embroidery foot #20 (BERNINA) to do some blanket stitch raw edge appliqué. In conjunction with 100wt invisafil thread by wonderfil one of my favorite and using the FHS (bernina Free Hand System) this helps you easily and quickly raise the pressure foot up to pivot your fabric.

Thank you for the tip about learning to use my left foot for the foot pedal and the right leg dedicated to the free-hand system. I was using my right leg for both and have to search for my foot pedal every time. Your videos are so informative.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m making a table runner as a Christmas gift. Bought the pattern not realizing it was appliqué which I’ve never done before. I learned everything I needed to know from your short video. It was packed through with information and tips. And how is it that I never knew I was supposed to train myself to sew with my left foot and use the knee lift with my right?? I’m hoping you have online classes because I can tell I can learn a lot more from you. You’re the best!

Awwww thanks for the very sweet comment 🥰. I love Applique because I get in the zone and the knee lift (FHS) is amazing for it. No matter what Bernina I’m on. I love teaching currently I don’t have any online classes. However I am considering it 😀

Do you use this on top thread only? And regular weight thread in bobbin? Or Wonderfil in both top and bobbin? Thank you.

When I do appliqué working with the Wonderfil threads I have invisifil 100wt thread on the top and the 80wt Decobob thread on the bobbin. Invisifil does not like to be on the bobbin. :) Hope This helps...

Do you prefer this #20 over the clear #23? I'm trying to improve my pressure foot supply/capabilities, but don't think I need to buy both feet. I really like your videos & am in the very earlier stages of starting my own business to sell products. Having the proper feet will help emensly. Thank you for your time.

Short answer, I prefer the #20 foot for most all applique but some customers of mine like the 23 or 34 foot.

Hi, I've used a number of different materials. I use "steam a seam 2 lite" the most because it allows me to reposition my pieces. "Heat n bond paper backed fusible web" is great too but the problem is if you lay the iron on it too long the glue will disappear but it is less expensive.
