I’m a breast cancer survivor for 4 years now. I’m the first in my family with breast cancer. Please don’t think that you are immune to getting breast cancer because you have no family history, and go get your mammogram! My BC was found on my yearly mammo. Because I have my mammograms routinely Every year, my tumor was so small it could not be felt. I was stage 1, so I had a lumpectomy and radiation. Please, ladies, get your mammogram!!! It’s not that bad!!😍

I was sent because of an inflammation in my right breast but the tumor was found in my left. My oncologist order a Geno test and it was negative. I do not have the gene for breast cancer. I’m the youngest female and pre-menopause. My oldest sister is post menopause. She had the Geno test as well and it was negative. This is good news for our children, nieces and nephews.

Breast cancer survivor here. My mammogram missed my tumor, a month later my gyne didn’t feel it, but I found it a couple of months later. Do check yourself regularly. I no longer have breasts after my treatment but I still check the area as does my oncologist. I am BRCA1 positive, triple negative, stage 2b IDC, 3/13 positive lymph nodes removed and a bi-lateral dbl mastectomy, flat and proud. First in my family to find cancer is hereditary and not a family curse.

As someone who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 31, all I can say is, if you have concerns talk to your gp and find one that will support you. I was told I was too young for a mammogram but when I told my doctor I think it’s time for a scan, she was happy enough to pretend we found a lump in order to have a scan…both of us were shocked when it came back positive for breast cancer. Thank you Jess and ByAnnie, your support and awareness will go a long way x

You know your body. It’s great you had a doctor who listened to you. I had a member of my family who was diagnosed with breast cancer before she was 30. She was in college at the time. She was studying for her PHD in pharmaceutical medicine. She had a year long treatment. When I was diagnosed I turned to her to answer some questions. She was amazing.

Was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer 6 years ago - stage 2.5. I had annual exams so it grew fast. Lymph node was clear but still had 6 months of chemo. I had a post op infection from plastic surgery expanders and it has taken me 6 years to get to the point that I’m willing to try again. Also I wanted to wait until I was closer to the end of the danger period. Cross my fingers every year.

What a fabulous video and pattern. Big shout out to By Annie for this #sewpink initiative. Breast Cancer is scary and can sneak up on you when you least expect it. I went in to see my OBGYN when I thought I had mastitis during a time when I was trying to wean my two year old. My breast was sore and there was a lump but I really thought the Dr would just hand me a prescription for an antibiotic and the most I would have to worry about would be soreness and a possible yeast infection. Not so much!!!! I was sent to an oncologist the following week and ten months later I had both breasts removed following multiple tests, ultrasounds and surgeries. That was over six years ago and I don't miss my breasts at all and I'm living life to the fullest each and every day. Check your girls. Go ahead and touch yourself. You'll be grateful you did. ;) PS: Thank you for you!!!

Had mammogram & radiologist said it was just a small cyst, not to worry. 18 months later, doing self exam, found pebble like small "cyst". My new Dr immediately sent me for a biopsy done 5pm on Labor Day. Tuesday got positive results. Post surgery & radiation, I am celebrating this month 11 years cancer free. PLEASE no matter your age, do self exams in shower. It can save your life. Thanks Jesse for your dedication.

Hi Jess. I have really become a huge fan of your channel. You are so clear, enthusiastic and FUN. I came to sewing because of breast cancer. It changed the course of my life. Treatment has resulted in permanent cognitive injury and debilitating fatigue. And I am alive. Living for now. Learning to do the things I am passionate about (like making bags!) I was diagnosed with stage 4 (incurable) breast cancer at 37. I was still nursing my youngest, who was 18 months. When I learned that I, a young, fit, health conscious mom had breast cancer I was shocked. But I rationalized, "at least it is a good cancer." Meaning I thought most people are cured. That it would be not so bad. It is the fun pink cancer, right? Boy, was I wrong. First of all, for those who do get stage 1-3 breast cancer, they have to endure treatment. And then, for 30% of them, it is going to come back and be terminal. And for people like me, diagnosed straight off the bat with stage four cancer...it means that the cancer will be there forever. It means that the future is now, not some far away time. Because of research, I am still alive 10 years later. I received a new drug called Herceptin that changed my prognosis from 3 years to 15. I am hopeful I have more and I can watch my kids grow up and leave home. Research means new lines of treatment that can greatly extend and hopefully save lives. But I have lost countless friends in the breast cancer community. Friends who died young and left behind little ones. Friends who were unable to have kids because of treatment. Thank you and By Annie for raising awareness. Scans are important, but ongoing research is key to extend and save lives.

I found a lump in 2015, ran to get a mammogram and it was a tiny cancer. Had the breast removed, lymph node biopsy, all of that with no pain whatsoever. But the scar turned ugly and I couldn’t clean it so I had a tram flap breast reconstruction. I do not recommend this surgery. I got four infections and almost died. My surgeon was a jerk who would never tell me anything nor visited me in the hospital either time. I had to go back for revision as my lower incision was opening and part of the new breast died. They also caused a partial lung collapse and did something to my nose so I couldn’t eat for three months, smell intolerance. If the scar hadn’t messed up I’d have been perfectly fine with my prosthesis. Luckily for me, I never once had any pain. I also was poisoned by the two antibiotics I was using at home and the infection was already gone. Not a great experience but I’m sure it’s not like that for everyone.

I was in my mid 40’s when I was diagnosed, but I had a very attentive doctor and she was concerned with high hormone level and decided that I should have a mammogram I didn’t see the connection but said ok , luckily I did go ahead as I did have BC that was in late 1998. I had a hard time with insurance getting it authorised. Fact low Vitamin D correlation, high hormone level I was on a high dose of birth control ( to decrease reoccurring ovarian cysts ) Fact not necessarily a family history.
