An easy but beautiful round trip hike on the Carnic High Trail via the Helmhaus and to the Sillianer Hütte, where you can always enjoy a beautiful view of the Sexten Dolomites. If you have the time, you can extend the hike to Hornischegg.
Start: Helmjet Sexten, South Tyrol
Distance: 9.7 km, 510 meters in altitude
We went up and down again with the Helmjet gondola in Sexten, leaving more time on the trail. You can also ascend and descend from Sexten.
On the way there we took the steeper ascent to the helm peak, which is more like an alpine trail, so surefootedness is required, but the path is not difficult (no climbing).
The hut on the Helm has not been open for a long time and is closed completely. From here we continue towards the Sillianer Hütte, which is located on Austrian soil and where a stop is absolutely worthwhile. Because of the weather conditions, we stopped here and then walked back to the gondola on the Carnic High Trail, and skipped the Hornischegg summit.
