I have tried the Orange PB, SD 170 and the Fryette PS2 for powering a Line 6 Helix. The Orange is too dark and gives all models an Orange amp tone. The Fryette PS2 was very good and better then the Orange, but the best imo was the SD 170 for a Helix. The EQ controls on the 170 are VERY sensitive and adds a quick tweak when needed to any Helix model. Its sort of a powered EQ with great response. Thats the one I kept and use for a Helix.

Do you run your outputs at instrument level or line level?? I'm currently running an HX Stomp XL into the PS170 into a 2x12 cab. I haven't touched the output levels, it's set to instrument level. Dont seem to have issues, but I'm asking around for opinions from people with similar setups just to make sure. Stay put. I have the project to build a two channel version of these with balanced combo inputs and combo speakon jack outputs. At least 200w RMS per channel, just power section, volume and a master mute. High quality, similar electronic setup as Seymour's and a warranty of at least one year. Hi i know this is 3 years old but i need help, i have tonex pedal and I am looking for power amp. I tried Harley Benton GPA-100 (4 ohms 190w on papers), and it did not manage to overpower drummer in reharsle room. Do you think the 200w would? As you said it is loud but really? the difference in watts is only 10w (not sure if bentons is honest ). but the 700w is like overkill, I think that one is ment for bass players.

If you want a good pedal platform rig that can keep up with a 100w tube amp then go for the PS700. You can run two 4ohm cabs off that baby. Solid state wattage is greatly affected by resistance so go 4ohm if you can.

It would be awesome if when demoing these types of power amps that the wattage is based on the ohms of the cabinets used. For instance; the 170 watt power rating is had with a 4 Ohm load. It's probably right around 85 watts at 8 Ohms and right around 40 watts at 16 Ohms. You won't get the full 170 watts with a 16 Ohm cab.

Just got the 200. Well, bought online yesterday so have to wait for it's arrival. Was looking at these dang small amps all day. Almost went with the 170 but read a review that it couldn't keep up with a drummer at 8 ohm so went with the 200. Then read a review on that saying the same thing 🤣 then read another review on the 200 saying 16 ohm is plenty loud enough for a band. So I don't know wth is up. Guess I'll find out soon enough. Great video!! Thanks 😁

What did you think? Surely 200 is loud enough?
@emach07
@emach07 Жыл бұрын
@@joshwalker8824 It got so close. Sounded amazing and the tone controls are a major plus. I see a few videos on YT with people insisting this small amp, and that small amp will keep up with a band. I guess these people are playing at very conservative volume levels because my experience was completely different and they will NOT keep up with a band. Unfortunately I had the same experience with the Powerstage 200. We play pretty loud but imo nothing outrageous. I only turn my amp up loud enough to blend with the drummer so I can hear things mixed evenly. And no mics or anything at practice. As soon as I got loud enough to hear good it started clipping. Tried tweaking a few things, t but couldn't get it to stop clipping so had the let it go . I think if I would have had my cabs wired at 4 ohm it would have been loud enough. But 8 ohms just didn't quite cut it, at least without clipping 😣

@@joshwalker8824 I was just looking at the 700 after I made that last comment. I don't know why but thought it was bigger so I passed on that due to wanting something loud but also as small as possible but have found nothing in that category that at least that works for me. But that 700 I'm sure would be perfect as far as volume. Judging how close the 200 got I have no doubts the 700 would be more than enough. These are super clean amps and sound great regardless of what volume you play at so I would definitely say heck yeah! You can turn these down to a whisper and they still sound fantastic! I would have went for the 700 but it would defeat the purpose that I'm trying to accomplish. Was hoping for a super small compact amp loud enough for a back up at a live gig in case my tube amp ever fails live. I have a backup tube amp but I ain't lugging two 100 watt Marshall tube amps around unless we're playing some serious gigs

I have used the Powerstage with just a guitar, no pedals at all, and gotten a really nice clean tone. Because the PS has it's own EQ section I can dial in a good tone and tweak it as I see fit. Putting other pedals or a modeler before it of course offers much more tonal options, but yeah if I'm looking for just a straight-forward clean tone, I can play straight into this no problem. And as for bass, I've used it for bass at both rehearsals and gigs before. The 700 works best in this context, but I've used the 200 as well for this and it does work. Hope this helps :)

No problem just turn the knobs and it effects both of our tone without us having to change our patch on the fly. 1 power amp to power both amps is nice saves room in the rack, we also use the XLR outputs & send those with the cab sim on (amazing feature) to our X32 :) Powerstage 700 is for sure a 10/10

Hi all, i have a bit confusion regarding the cab used with the ps unit. They give the wattage per 4watts. I am considering to use this with a tonex and 2x12" 60 Watts each 16 ohm cabinet. That's 120 watts total in speakers. Resistance lowers wattage to a 4th... so around 43 to 50 W. Is that an issue? Coming from a 100 W tube amp world.

What I'm confused about it why would you need a eq on the powerstage if the fx unit can do the same?

From what I gather, not by itself. But Radial makes a cablink for amps without multiple outs. As far as the different size cabs, I would think it would be fine as long as the impedance is okay?

Can you plug this into a headrush frfr speaker? Or is this better with a real cab
@ithebastardking2800
@ithebastardking2800 3 жыл бұрын
Why would you do that? A frfr speaker is for a modeler with the cabsim/ IR ON and have that signal path amplified as natural as possible. The seymour duncan power amp is to play with your real cab, so yes you can use it with your headrush if you enable your cab sim/ IR.
@davidfaustino4476
@davidfaustino4476 2 жыл бұрын
Lol your FRFR has an amp in it already and no way to connect to the speaker.. the inputs on those go to a preamp. Try plugging the speaker out of your guitar head into a mixer one day.. let us know how that goes..

270w.. INPUT at 110v. The voltage measured on the speaker output on these is max like 35-40v as it relies more on current than voltage to produce wattage at the speaker. Do the math.. it scales perfectly.

I've used both the 200 and the 700 for bass before. The 700 works best as I feel it offers the most headroom and power for bass tone but the 200 did work very well too. I've used the HX Stomp with it as well, however not for bass (I play guitar and bass regularly in various gigs) and the Stomp pairs up with it perfectly for me. Hope this helps, cheers!

Just a note to point out to those that might not know when watching this video.... If your cab is 8ohm you won't get the full 170 watts of power, only like 85 watts. If you have a 4ohm cab (which is not usually common with guitar cabs but more for bass cabs) then you will get the full 170 watts. It's silly that the 170 unit wasn't made optimally for an 8ohm cab, which is the most common of guitar cabs.

The only reason to go for the 700 is the ability to run 1 channel with a cab sim to front of house and one channel without a cab sim to your stage cabs. If you don't run that exact scenario then you are better served with either the 170 or 200. Shame that one feature makes the 700 cost almost double that of the 170 because I have never once felt the need for the extra power even playing stages.

You don’t need an effects loop because an effects loop just puts the effects between the preamp and the power amp, which you can do by just putting the preamp before the effects you would put in the loop and then into the power amp
