For historical value.
Trivia: "East coast" is shouted by someone in the crowd during Justin Wong's matches, because he and the EC in general were notorious turtles at the time. Generally used here as an ironic jeer and not a cheer.
Trivia: 3rd Strike was not a popular game in the US at the time of this tournament, which goes a long way in explaining the results of this 5v5 match. For example, this the first time American players were exposed to Urien's Aegis Reflector traps/combos, as can be seen during the infamous Justin Wong vs Tokido match (24:49). Note the rather audible reaction from the spectating players. This tournament was responsible for a rise in interest among many US players, who may have thought of it as a boring or uninteresting game.
The sitting Japanese players are:
KSK (Alex)
Chikyuu [Sodom] (Twelve)
Tokido AKA Murderface (Urien)
Ohnuki (Chun-Li)
Mester (Yun)
The rotating US Players are:
Justin Wong (Chun-Li)
JR Rodriguez (Akuma)
Mike Watson (Yun; SA2)
George "Gee-O" Posadas (Chun-Li)
Alex Valle (Ryu)
House mic run by Ben "tragic" Cureton.

Good lord the technology went so far from this point forward. Its amazing how much the game changed, people were blowing loads over the aegis reflector chaos for the 1st time prolly. Thanks for sharing!

It's crazy how much more tech Japan had learned in the 3 years the game was out than USA did. Learnt the hard way about the absolute might of Aegis Reflectors and Genei Jin lmao. Japan was just lightyears ahead and they basically learned everything from playing the game. Now people can learn everything from the internet. In an internet-less world Japan crushes any opposition and there's no contest.

i think they had more arcades and thus more 3rd strike machines and thus a bigger and more competitive scene

People seem to forget everyone in the US hated sf3 and no one played it. Thats why they were so far behind. It was after they got washed in the 5v5 people actually started to play it. Look at the super choices valle and watson made lol

This is the real reason 3s became big later. Americans literally didn't know how to play the game and il didn't realize how much can be done in it

@@gold6813 Nobody really understands how powerful the ability to change your movement midair is in Street Fighter, especially when you have like 4 different ways to do it like Twelve does. The glide, the knife hands, the dive kick and the corner turnaround. All of that makes up for his low damage, stun and meter gain.
@jktwice8235
@jktwice8235 3 жыл бұрын
@@ChizeSOI The problem with Twelve is that he isn’t rewarded for getting in. He finds hits easily but his weakness is his lack of combo routes and he doesn’t seem to have excellent confirms like Chun has for her SA2. Twelve’s SA1 is actually quite good though, but I think that’s the only way he can do damage.

Hey TS we met at Evo before. Do you know what Chikyuu is up to nowadays? Did he ever play anything newer than A3? I really got into competitive fighting games because of SFA3 so I always wonder what happened to some of the players I liked especially Chikyuu etc (Saw Bas at Evo 2009 but I feel like he was mostly hanging out...)

(of course he didn't watch the RX videos, he's a troll) Hey Airthrow, I remember you. I haven't heard much from Chikyuu, but he still plays Vampire Savior from time to time (search KZfaq for "Chikyuu Vampire", neojinbe has uploaded some of his videos). Other than that, not sure what he's been up to. BAS flirted with SF4 for a while, but likewise I don't know what he's been playing lately, if anything.

Japan was just stacked, KSK and Mester both great players in 3s with Chikyuu just bodied people with Twelve and the gods of the FGC Nuki and Tokido to just give the team a bigger push to dominate ? I'm shocked US got wins off this team honestly

That Twelve player is crazy. Imo he's the worst in the game, yet he KOd Wong's Chun, quite an accomplishment for a character that does zero damage and only one of his supers is viable If I remember (X.N.D.L)? That's one hell of a choice to make. Good for him. I play Oro but the whole cast fascinates me. I'm not playing SFV until they drop Oro bc I pretty much only play 3S.

@@gold6813 That's fascinating, thank you! I love info like that. I had no clue! I always thought Twelve was the worst but I can see Sean having that spot as well - I think general consensus is that Sean is the worst? Thank you. Tekken is definitely my favorite fighter but 3S isn't far behind imo it's the best 2D fighter ever made.

Not 100x but yeah there are games I think are better. Did you watch any RX videos? There is a lot of boringness in this video, but this is not even close to the highest level of 3S...but if you watch Chikyuu (oldskool SFA3 player) use one of the weakest characters in SF history run a train on Team USA... I can't call that boring.
