I made my list so early that I barely had any of the books in the later half of the year... thanks for this annual resource

Wild Massive, Hopeland, The Ten Percent Thief, Descendant Machine, Red Team Blues, The Ferryman, Myriad, Sub Orbital 7, The Combat Codes and The Archive Undying are what my dollars will go toward in this list. Horror is, indeed, next. Glad I took the plunge this year.

Thanks. People hate spoilers. A book is like traveling in a distant country. It's so much easier with maps.

Wow, some good ones in there. I liked Megan O'Keefe's Protectorate trilogy so will pick her new book right away (which reminds me I should check her Scorched Continent books). Same with Ann Leckie (liked them, will read new one). Myriad (time-travelling cop) will be another I'll check out (a relative is a cop---doesn't time-travel though...or he's not saying). I thought the author of Whether Violent or Natural was the kid of old friends of mine from 40+ years back (their daughter has published some novels now; I was hoping she'd branched out into scifi, but google tells me they're different people).

Wow so many to look forward to. Newitz, Leckie, McDonald, O'keefe, McDevitt, Dewes. Then there are the books by Authors I am not familiar with (have not read), Frontier, Meru, The Strange (who couldn't love a True Grit retelling?), Infinity Gate, Some Desperate Glory, The Archive Undying, The Deep Sky, Emergent Properties, Generation Ship. I don't see the Himalayan Range that is my tbr reducing any time soon 😁

I'm pretty sure Sugar and Spice wrote that one, Scalzi has to (reluctantly) take the credit because cats can't sign contracts or open bank accounts.

I've been excited for a while about The Mimicking of Known Successes, but I'm going to have to keep an eye out for Translation State and Starter Villain since I love the sound of them.

Excellent list! I've added 10 new books to the TBR, not sure whether to thank you or be mad! So many 'sff book releases 2023' videos focus on fantasy & YA so it's nice to hear about more SF. Most excited for The Mimicking Of Known Successes & Translation State as far as SF goes. 🙂

I have some of these from NetGalley (Burrowed, Frontier, Feed them Silence, Nothing but the Rain, Archive Undying)! Can't wait to jump into them and I'm reading Burrowed right now :D They rejected me for Some Desperate Glory though :'(

Thanks for this. It was your anticipated releases for 2024 video that made me come back and look at this. I was looking for supplementary information to augment the Goodreads Reader's Choice Awards. The word on Booktube is uniform disappontment in the list for science fiction. I was wondering what COULD have been there. Turns out, quite a lot. Now to take the list back to Goodreads to see what the surprizing/puzzling snubs were.

Correction:. "nobody who reads John Scalzi takes his works too seriously" The John Scalzi books "God Engines" and his Interdependence series are quite serious.

Regarding the Alex Benedict book: It sounds intriguing, but I've not read the earlier books (or indeed heard of them). Would you say these are the kind of books that are easy to pick up mid series, or would you recommend starting with the first one?
@SFF180
@SFF180 Жыл бұрын
They’re all more or less standalones. But the whole series is rewarding and whichever one you choose to start with, you should have a good time. Seeker won the Nebula Award and Polaris and Echo were both Nebula finalists.

Oh, as to which books are my most anticipated sci-fi of 2023: The Terraformers is on my list as well, and now that I've watched your video and found out about it, so is the new Sue Burke book (I loved the Semiosis duology!). I'm also looking forward to the next Murderbot book, but it doesn't really have a date yet, just "2023"

Definitely interested in the two multiverse books, especially Wild Massive what a concept that is. Infinity Gate looks great also. Frontier looks to scratch the firefly itch. Proud Pink Sky seems like an extremely interesting political SF. Bang Bang Bodhisattva looks interesting title notwithstanding… I mean cyberpunk really should have more trans characters as body modification is such an important part of the subgenre. Archive Undying is interesting more for the AI gods then the giant mechs. And of course I’m all for some sentient super villain cats.
