The SFMTA board is about to approve a budget that would attempt to close a deficit of $12.7 million over the next two years. One way to get revenue is to improve enforcement. abc7ne.ws/3TOsOws

If people truly need reduced fare, they should Google to find Muni/SFMTA's page on "How to Access Low-Income Transit Fares and Fee Waivers." There are resources to help people that qualify.

I saw one homeless guy got pulled off the bus with no fare and he ran across the stree....the inspectors didn't bother even chasing him down😅. But they will come get ur address , nickel and dime all the law abiding tax paying hard working regular joes😢😢😢😢

If you're a law abiding citizen, a homeowner, have a good job, then you're an easy target for police, the government, unscrupulous people that will want to sue you. And you can't do anything about it because they will bankrupt you.

I ride muni daily, and I would estimate less than a third of the riders pay any fare. The muni drivers and those booth agents turn a blind eye to it.

It's not their job to stop fare evaders, that duty belongs to the fare inspectors.

Fare inspectors are a waste of money. The main real problem is SFMTA is a money pit. They never have enough money, even after absorbing all parking and traffic citations revenues. Reporter should STOP saying that passengers don't pay. This news report is encouraging others to NOT pay. MOST riders (>80-90%) are honest and PAY their fares. But also, Muni gives too many discounts. For example, between 8:30pm and 5am, muni passengers can have unlimited free rides. Even if 100% of riders paid, it wouldn't cover SFMTA expenditures.

Go back to charging students and kids18 and under to ride MUNI. Maybe 50 cents per ride. Everyone should pay something!

And non essential overtime and no new union contract until balanced. Employee on leaves are still getting paid. Or open business restaurant inside the underground muni station

NYC same thing. Because the fare too expensive. Lots passenger jumping over the turnstiles every subway station and the bus drivers let them go on for free. If the bus driver don’t give them free rides. They’ll punch the driver to the bloody over the driver face.
