Even though Miami could tag Tua, I think the smart thing for Miami is to agree to tua’s terms because I strongly believe Tua has All the power in this negotiation and if Miami plays a delay tactic in the long run Miami will end up hurting themselves and have no choice but to pay Tua, and because of the delay tactic, it’s going to cost them more, much more money

So if Tua balls out and shows he’s better the Allen does it matter he’s getting 60 mill per instead of 56 or 57. But on the flip side, if he shows he can’t over late season failures or worst get hurt again. Now you’re on the hook for 57 per lol. Just to save 3-5 mill a year lol. I rather risk the 3-5 per to make sure he’s the guy

He'll definitely tax them for not showing faith or demand to get traded. It would get ugly. He could also decide to sit the season they try to tag him too because other teams would see how good he really is. As Joy would say, it's a lot more NUANCED than you're making it seem.

No player is sitting a whole season and leaving $40mil on the table. At worst, you tag him and trade him if anyone else thinks he's worth it. Take that draft capital and get yourself a QB that can actually elevate his team... with another 4-5 years of rookie money savings to boot.

Gotta look at the top guy. Before Trevor got payed the top guy was Burrow. Shady was saying Tua shouldn’t be getting payed more then burrow cuz he’s not better. Now that Trevor is over Burrow he’s saying Tua should get payed more cuz he’s better. So he’s staying pretty consistent with what he’s saying

This is why a QB cap is gonna come in. Every other position you have to be top 5 to match or reset the market. At QB we have guys in the 10 -15 range just playing average and getting 10-15 million more than the All Pro/ MVP players at the same position.

The flaw in Acho’s(and the market’s) logic is this, “You start at the highest and go up.” You should start at the “BEST,” and see where you sit in that hierarchy. People always talk about “market value,” for QB’s, but they’re not seafood. They’re more like cars-and there’s, at any given time, 1-3 Ferraris, 1-3 Pintos, and a whole bunch of good, reliable pickup trucks. But you have all these F-150’s walking in and demanding(and getting) Ferrari money. Owners need to be like, “Look-if you want me to pay you Mahomes money, you need to give me Mahomes results-what kind of car are you with bad gas and bald tires?” Because Mahomes has proven he can win with anyone. Tua didn’t even make the post season before Hill, Pat’s won two without him.

They already exercised the 5th year option. They can't do it again. They talking about what happens if Tua plays this season and balls out, then they could theoretically tag him. Problem with that is then they get into the exact same trouble the Cowboys got into with Dak. If Tua keeps balling, they'll never have a high draft pick and then his number keeps going higher and higher. Then, just like Dak did, he can force them into a deal with no trade clause and no tag clause.

What Dave doesn't understand is that just cuz you pay him $55mil bc someone else will soon be paid more than that doesn't make it the right move. Once you pay him that money, that also means you have about $10-20mil less to build a roster around him. Meanwhile, you needed that money to compete against those real dawgs that are getting $50+mil bc them boys elevate their team while Tua is propped up by his squad. The Giants already learned this lesson and the Jags are about to learn it too.

Tua has a way better resume and has been better but he's not a 50 million dollar QB much less 55-60. The jaguars did the stupidest move in the NFL by giving Lawrence 50 a year the same way the giants made stupid move. Tua is a 38-42 million dollar QB.

Dave keeps missing the boat and I want to rout for him but he just doesn't get it. It is not a literal question as its never 100%, but he can't conflate Trevor's potential talent when he hasn't shown spark and he has had weapons. Tua is better because he HAS shown a flame thrower with talent. But when talking leverage, the real point isnt that they can use the tag and have him under contract. Its that the business move is they will save crazy money doing it and then in 2 years they can make him the highest paid and not really lose much if something goes wrong because they will save 40 million over those 2 years. It is same situation as with Lamar. Save them money and be an asshole then pay them if they still show they are ballin.

The Dolphins GM said himself that they're not close to the Market Value for Tua. This should mean that the Dolphins aren't willing to overpay for him. So, he won't reset the market this season. Unless it's with another team

No one gets that. They are paying 2 receivers a combined $60m a year whereas Lawrence doesn't have those, so the Dolphins can say that the numbers are a combined effort of the offense. That being said - I am taking a picture of TLaw into the negotiations and saying "start here." 😂

They're saying $38M vs $55M, but it wouldn't actually be that. I'm reality, a franchise tag would be a legit $38M, but a contract extension would be structured where that year would be greatly reduced against the salary cap because the front end is always less money and is offset by a signing bonus.

No division titles, no playoff wins, 1 fully healthy season and led the league with 4600 yards, his 1st season with over 4k yards. 2-11 vs Lamar, Allen, Mahomes and Burrow. I'm a Dolphins fan and wouldn't pay him anything until I see him improve on last year. Especially if the price tag is 55 million a year. Who is paying him that money if he hits free agency? Let's be honest about it. No cold weather team would, and there's alot of teams that either have their franchise qb or have a young qb on a cheap rookie deal. I'm curious to see what his market would be if he hit free agency

If Tua’s agent goes to Miami saying that he deserves to be paid higher than Trevor than Miami’s response should be “we don’t have to make the same mistake they did overpaying a mid tier QB.” Just because you’re better than the top paid guy doesn’t mean you’re better than some of the other guys. I’d personally take Goff, Herbert, Burrow, Lamar, and Love over him in that system any day of the week. You can find a QB that does one read and throws accurately to one of the 2 top 10 WRs you have on the team.

Tua has 2 of the best WRs in the league. Tua had a better Oline his career. Trevor was throwing to kick returners and 30 yr old WRs his rookie season. Trevor beat Tua head to head and he has a playoff win

It's not the dolphins fault the Lions, Jags, and Browns overpaid. There's a reason the chiefs are winning superbowls and these teams aren't. It's not about what other teams are paying qb's, it's about how much a qb is worth. And no qb is worth more than 20% of the budget.

How are the guys on a network talk show and don't have all their facts straight?? They've been bashing Trevor Lawrence even since before his new contract. They talk as if his contract is guaranteed money. No, Trevor Lawrence is incentive based and performance motivated. He's actually only making $40-$43 million per year, that puts him at 11th highest paid in the league. He doesn't see no $60+ million unless he balls out. GM knows what he's doing. These guys don't touch on that, and obviously don't watch a single Jaguar's game, they just see the final score and stats. Gardiner Minchew can't do what Trevor Lawrence can do, so yeah they may have similar numbers but Gardiner isn't asked to make the type of throws TLaw throws.

Pay Tua pay him everything he wants. He'll learn to play in cold weather, right. I'd love the Dolphins to hitch their wagon to Tua. Has Tua won a playoff game, last year they couldn't beat a team with a winning record and it reared it's ugly head against Buffalo week 17. Plus Buffalo D was beat up in that game no Milano, no White, no Jones, no Hyde, injuries on all three levels of the defense, sorry but that's on the Dolphins offense.
