Straight facts, I agree with you in 100% but actually I think that there is a certain reason for that. I may be wrong, but... when it was popular? In 2000s yes? What happened in 2008? A crisis and recession. When such modifications started to be "outdated" and "rice"? After 2008. What came after 2008? Stock car stanced on wheels and some coilovers (all from China). Why? because many people had no money after recession to build such crazy imports etc with paintjobs and so on. So if someone cannot afford something cool and gets salty about it, will call it rice and outdated shit. Back in the day, before recession, middle class was way wealthier than now. We didn't have such crisises going on. So we had money to afford it. Now as everything gets expensive, what's creative and not minimalistic will be called out ugly, because someone gets salty about another person being able to pull that off financially. Who was buying mostly magazines like Super Street, Import Tuner etc? I think that mostly middle class. Because there was most of the interest about it. Poor people couldn't afford a car, rich ones were going for premium brands like Ferraris, Lambos etc. So I think, if we want to have those times back, we need to make middle class wealthy again (just not in such stupid way like pumping some real estate bubble etc). But if to look at how car companies screw passionate people with agreeing for gasoline cars ban (compare it to gun laws where gun manufacturers disagree and somehow "strangely" politicians cannot overcome them), and how in many countries modifying car is being restricted as much as only possible, I don't know if it will be possible unless people like us would unite and become vocal minority ourselves. Just my opinion and observations, maybe right, maybe wrong, but wanted to share them with you all as we seem to be missing those good times of car modifications etc :D Maybe someone will have an idea for taking some action that will change the situation into more positive one. I was only a kid back then, but I remember how much things changed in '08, before it everything felt like it had a much more carefree attitude, while after it there was a great sense of unease which I still think lingers on today. As you said though, what we need is to not only look back at the good times, but creating new ones ourselves. I, for one, have managed to move to Japan and am now studying car mechanics here. During the six months I've been here I've seen that there are absolutely a great number of car enthusiasts out there and my classmate who bought a Subaru Pleo and let me customize it with him for the equivalent of about 5000 bucks show that if you want to, you can definitely still have fun with cars even on a tighter budget. As a side note, we're going to put underglow on it. ;)
