There are some difference between the vinegar and coke and both are not used in the same way, when you want to remove rust. Vinegar has various level of Acetic Acid (usually ~5%). Coke (and some other brand of carbonated drink) has ~0.055% of Phosphoric acid Phosphoric acid (H3PO4) is much more potent at dissolving than Acetic Acid (CH3COOH) as it's ionized to a greater extent. The % is of acid in Cola is much lower than in Vinegar, hence why Vinegar might react more strongly early on than Coke in the open. If you were to leave the tool in both solution and replace the Cola and Vinegar every 24-48 hours, after a or two week, you would notice that not only the Coke would have removed most of the rust over all, but it will have also eaten away at the pliers itself. This is why some people who have put a nickel or whatever piece and left it in Cola might have found a soft dissolved smudge a week later. The key part of the Cola being more efficient than vinegar at removing rusk is when it's done with a certain control over the air flow as to reduce the cola's CO2e from escaping as fast as it generally does in the open. To put it simple, you want the minimal amount of air flow (but not 100% restricted) around the cola so that the CO2e doesn't escape insanely fast. In the test shown in this video, you're experimenting in the open air, hence the vinegar doesn't change much while the Coca Cola changes a lot as its CO2 will have escaped the glass in less than an hour. How does the CO2e in the cola help? It act on 2 part of the rust removal: 1) It generate a constant movement of the liquid flow within the first few hours (or even more if the controls over the CO2e escaping flow is great). To put it in simple terms, when acid reacts to the metal/rust, the PH of the acid changes around the metal will changes. If there are no flow or movement in the liquid, this could hinder the rust removal process unless the PH-altered acid become lighter or heavier and moves away by itself. The CO2e basically moves the liquid regardless of the alteration of the liquid, hence the metal and rust is exposed to a less-altered acid. The movement of the liquid also assist in the removal of the outer micro-part of the rust which then expose more of the underlying rust (if applicable) to the acid. 2) The CO2e assists in reducing the oxidation of the iron in the tool. It's basic sciences. To oxide, iron requires oxygen. CO2e (like any CO2) stick oxygen to itself and makes it so that it doesn't get absorbed by the environment. If the metal's rust is deprived from the air's oxygen (like your lungs would be if you were in a room full of CO2), it will stop doing its oxidation process (or at least, at a much lower rate). So while vinegar will work at removing some rust, it will not stop most of the under-laying oxidation process. As such, light rust is easily cleaned with vinegar while heavy rust will get better results with a well-controlled room/container and cola. If you want the best kind of setup for a container for rust removal with cola, here's the setup I'm using: - Take a glass container that can hold what you need to remove rust on. For something like the pliers you see in this video, it can be a bottle of pasta sauce you can easily find at a grocery store. For bigger tools, you can take one of those over glass container in which you can cook lasagna or something. - Put the tool in the container. If the tool in the glass container is vertically oriented, make sure the rusted part is located at the bottom. - Prepare 2 sheets of transparent plastic wrap. For a bottle-type container (like pasta sauce), you might need a sheet of ~15cm (~6") cut in half. For a larger flat container (like a lasagna glass plate), you can have the 2 sheets at a length so that they can, together, cover the whole container's opening, with a slim amount of overlay between them. - Fill the glass container with cola until all the rusted metal part are in the liquid. - Place the plastic wrap sheet over the container's opening. If the container is the bottle type, puncture a small tiny hole in each sheet, but as you place them, do NOT align the holes together, but slighty off from each other. Put a rope or rubberband around the opening to keep the plastic wrap in position. If the container is the lasagna glass plate, you'll most likely have to attach a small rope to hold the plastique wrap. If you have 2 sheets of plastic wrap that overlay each other around the center of the plate, make sure they are roped tight enough so that you can't see any "air" space in between their overlaying part. This create an air-tight-pressure-free glass container. (If the pressure raise or drop, the 2 holes will allow a minimum of air exchanges. If the pressure is okay, the CO2e will not escape the container and it will slow down the oxidation of the metal to barely ~5% its normal speed.) Also, you can help the rust removal, with cola, using that type of containing method by shaking the container a bit (not too little, but not too much) so that the CO2e in the bottle/plate, move around and this renew a bit the constant liquid movement caused by the CO2e

This is a good one I didn't know that you can use Coke for something like that. & I drink a lot of Coke. I Easy keep an 12-pack in the truck 🚛 all the time. As a matter of fact for Christmas I got a Coca-Cola six-pack cooler to sit right up front underneath my dashboard in my truck 🚛 & man I love it. It keep them coke so nice & cold and I got my refrigerator in the back of my truck 🚛 with a 12 pack. I tried to vinegar now imma try the coke. Good video brother thank you for sharing.
