The 80s series literally changed the course of my life. After 18 years living in Japan, marriage to two Japanese women, 3 half Japanese kids, and now living in a house in the US where we speak about 75% Japanese, this new version was a dream come true. The first 2 episodes were amazing! I can’t wait to see it all multiple times!

Hiroyuki Sanada's talent and experience make him the best fit to portray Admiral Yamamoto in a biographical movie. His ability to bring depth and authenticity to his roles is unparalleled, and his passion for his craft is evident in his performances. Seeing him embody this iconic figure would be a powerful and moving experience for audiences, and I believe that he is the ideal choice for the role.

In Latin America in 1983 came to TV a TV series called SANKUOKAI that was a runaway success everywhere. One of the main characters was a young man named Ayato, played by Hiroyuki Sanada... It is now a cult series and was a rage at the time. I think HS has no idea how famous that series was.

I, too, have been rabidly looking for anything and everything Hiroyuki!! In every interview he is so humble, so quiet spoken and so grateful for the opportunities that have been offered to him and yet, he seems almost embarrassed by all the accolades that are heaped upon him when they are so well-deserved! He works very hard to actually live the character in any role that he portrays, and he just nails it EVERY TIME. Plus, being such an elegant, impeccably GQ-dressed actor shows just how classy he is. With English being his second language, he expresses himself very well!! ANNNNDDDD......... He is the most BEAUTIFUL. GORGEOUS. MALE. ON. THIS. PLANET.🤤🥰🤩💖!!!

I remember the more theatrical 80s version, and the book I bought at that time,but the 4 episodes I've seen so far of this one totally eclipse the previous Chamberlain version. Huge production values, it's a time machine to Edo in 1600. The original novel is hard work at times, with excessive screeds of endless dialogue and the edits they've made so far are, I think, an improvement on Clavell's rather self indulgent overwriting of scenes. Toranaga is the master tactician, who seems so hard-as-nails compared to this gentle actor with the modest manner. I think this is going to be really, really massively successful.

Why use English instead of Portuguese??? Why make 70% of the show subtitled with Japanese language, but totally ignore the Portuguese counterpart using English? I understand the audience, but isn't that insulting both to the Portuguese and Japanese, considering Japanese language has words of Portuguese origin. Furthermore, the biggest diaspora of Japanese outside of Japan is Brazil, where Portuguese is also spoken.

I think it can be easy to mistake reserve and natural quietness/humility in a person for disdain or indifference. He's speaking in a second language, and he is from a different culture than the language family being spoken. This interview was definitely more difficult for him than it would have been in Japanese, but I personally admired that he made the effort to do it when it wasn't the easy route and his points still came across perfectly. That's how I saw it!
@mikepeterson9362
@mikepeterson9362 2 күн бұрын
@@paulaeperoutka Absolutely every last thing that you just said is true Paula. But here's what's also true: Almost to the last person alive, absolutely everyone in Hollywood utterly hates doing their publicity tours. They are asked ridiculous, vacuous, unabashedly horrifying questions, not for hours on end, but for days on end, and those questions almost always amount to nothing. The actors, directors and producers hate it....they hate it, they hate it, they hate it. And they use their acting skills more during their tours than they ever do during the actual production of their movies. This isn't a language or culture story kid, this is about the sociopathic exploitation of popularity, talent and guile to make money. They hate it, I hate it, and I hope you'll come to hate it one day, as soon as you realize what it is.
