Having read the book multiple times, I’m a little concerned this version will be Mariko heavy; Blackthorne barely shows in the trailer, and the book is essentially about him - obviously Mariko is a major character, as well as Toranaga (and the political intrigue surrounding him), but the story is Blackthorne. And since when was Mariko an assassin? Looks like her slicing a ninja’s throat in the trailer??

I think if anyone can follow on the tails of Toshiro Mifune's kimono, it's Sanada. The 1980 series was very respectiful of the material - straight down the middle - epic portrayals and sweeping battles that did TV proud. I can already tell there is going to be a lot of CGI in this which may not be a good thing - the original didn't need any 44 years ago and it looked fantastic. This is similar to The Lord of the Rings - it's very special material that a lot of people really, really cherish - they better not drop the ball.
