I’ve always been hesitant of cheap tires. I bought a truck two years ago that had Atturo XT’s from the dealer and I’ll never go back. Rotating every 5k miles and I’ve had 0 issues with good tread wear. On par with my Nitto Terragrapplers and Toyo AT’s.

I had the baja atz p3 in a 305/65/17 for 2 years and daily drive them everyday on the highway for 30 minutes back and forth to work, only rotated 2 times since I bought them and they are the best damn tire iv ever used, did good at high speed in turns, good in dirt and mud and also good in rain.they wore so damn good too for only being rotated twice, they all wore evenly and tread lasted forever.

Check the tread depth. That's why your measurements aren't matching up. The thicker the lugs, the "wider" they're going to measure because you're going down the side of the tread. Just measure the width of the lugs that would be touching the road surface. I'd be interested to see if it makes a difference.

Tried the Nitto TG on my 2020 PW with 169 miles on the truck, but immediately Discount Tire had to replace one because it wouldn't balance. I made a 1200 mile trip the following weekend and after vibration issues, they replaced them with Toyo RT. The Toyo RT is smooth on the highway, great on the beach and just did a nice job in some big snow in Michigan. Mickey Thompson ATZ P3 is going on this summer along with Black Rhino 20x9.5 wheels. Looking forward to the Mickeys.

The Kelly TSR probably started this segment and is my favorite. I guess they are not cool enough to get into some of these comparisons. I had two sets in a row that went over 70,000 miles and still had some tread left. i can't say that about anything else i have owned in the last 20 years of running offroad tires. That said i got a new truck and want to try something different. It is out of the ATZ or Toyo R/T. I think I am done with pure mud tires unless i start getting stuck.

Thanks for posting. I love learning about all this shit for my truck. I just purchased a 2016-Ford-F150XLT-V8-SuperCrew which I'm Roush customizing with Ford. I had the truck tinted, lifted (6"Rough Country) & slapped 20" Fuel rims with 35x12.5 Courser MXT tires. To be honest im really happy with them. They barely make any tire noise & they look great. I was gonna go with the Baja-Micky Thomas tires but the guys at the Tire shop talked me out of them with these. IDK. These are my first big truck tire so idk much about them. I think I got a some nice tires but not 100% sure. Who knows. Maybe the guys made more money on the Courser over the Micky Thomson so that's the reason they pushed them on me. Again though. I'm happy. They ride really nice with really low noise.

I have the Mastercraft Courser MXTs on my Xterra. I've used them for about 20k miles and they are a bit less than 50% tread. After a LOT of hard off-road, they are very loud now. I am probably gonna switch to the Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3's afterwards. So I'm doing the opposite of you lol

Great comparison! I am leaning towards the Atturo because I like my factory wheels on my Ram 2500 and a little less width on my stock 17 x 8 wheels will work better. I'm older and so is my truck. The stretch doesn't make much sense when you need to air down. I like the extra coverage and less likely to pop a bead. Thanks!

I just got some ATZ P3. I previously had Kumho KL78 which in a 285/70R17 are moderately aggressive. As soon as i got to 50km/h on the P3's i realised i got the wrong tyres because they are noisy. The Atturo looks like a lawn tractor turf tire. It would do well on a golf course but not much else.

295/65/20 is the size to go with it's over a 35x11.75 in the nitto its weight rating is more as a 10 ply than the 12 ply 35/12.5 version

Does a mud tire handle snow and ice on the roads well? I live in Northern Wisconsin and would like to know how a mt and a hybrid do in wet, slippery, and snowy road conditions! Thanks.
@MichaelRCarlson
@MichaelRCarlson 7 жыл бұрын
No, on ice, compact snow or wet slush a MT is just a bit better than a racing slick. It's simply not designed for that. An AT or Hybrid with plenty of siping is what you need. You can also maybe get a MT custom siped.

I second that. My nitto mts bout killed me in my f150 when just two inches of snow dropped on road on way home. Back end broke loose in a curve. Recovered without wrecking but looking for replacements now.

I have ran toyo MT and nitto trail grappler in the snow. I live in western PA and we get pounded with snow. I would have never thought there would be a difference, but the Toyo MT are horrible and dangerous in the snow. Hydroplane in wet of dry snow. The nitto trail grappler on the other hand didnt slide or hydroplane at all in dry or wet snow. Couldnt pay me to run toyo MT again. I run the trail grapplers rear round. I highky reccomend them. 60,000+ miles and they are not noisy.

I have a '99 Ram 1500 that has been a daily driver with AT tires on factory 7" wheels. If I want to stay with the same size 285/75/16 tire or a step up to a 35" tire, what is the best all around rim width? I'm not young enough to climb up every time stepping into the truck. No lift, maybe a 2" boost but nothing more. This is just a question of curiosity. Thanks for the help.

isuckatcodbro I would consider Duratracs a hybrid, personally. Like a mud tire but still have tighter lugs in the center. I just don't know that they make "cool" sizes (33x12.50R20 etc)

Anyone have the xt tires? The tighter lug pattern looks like it would fill with muddy clay really fast and have no traction. Is this a true assumption?
@CustomOffsetsTV
@CustomOffsetsTV 4 жыл бұрын
They have large tread blocks on the side of the tire near the tread work to give extra grip in loose dirt, mud, and sand. They are very good tires on the pavement but also perform well off road.

Tire choice is all personal preference Shmag, out of the Hybrids, the Toyo RT and nitto Ridge Grappler are the top 2 dominating right now!

Just for a little clarity - none of those tires have 10 plies. None have more than 3 plies and likely all of them have only 2 plies. The ply rating was for bias ply tires and is still used as a pressure rating (that translates to weight carrying ability). Also no one takes a tire like this on a 20" wheel offroad. These are street trucks. Mud or offroad tires are just for looks on these trucks.

wish my 35x13.50 x20 Toyo rt's would Ballance as good as the ones you have . I bought mine from custom offsets last year mounted and balanced on a set of 20x12 -44 hostile knuckles and then I have Ballance mine 3times and replaced 2 out of 4 bad tpms and sent them out and had the road force balancing done and they have always been shakers . it's bad enough to make your drinks go flat in the center console on a 20mile trip on a 2014 z71 ltz . I definitely won't buy another set when these are ready to be replaced . they are way out of round . is this a issue on all Toyo tires or just the rt ? I bought rt because they were supposed to be smoother but all my buds with mts are as smooth and some are smoother than mine . I'm gonna do a 3in body lift and try some 40s before to much longer but what is the best tire to buy as far as being smooth and not shaking your 50k truck to peices ?

On the test drive he says the tyres are pulling side to side. Looks like he is running a very non stock offset. Thats the problem.

I really just figured that all toyos shook since mine came balanced and the issue is they are really badly out of round I figure whoever balanced them would have seen if they were abnormally out of round but showing Ballanced or not . they want about 400.00 to true them straight but that takes off alot of tread and would increase the amount of lead to get them Ballanced . it was so bad the stabilitrac was acting stupid on freeway ramps and applying brake which would make you butt hole draw up at 70mph untill I had the road force balancing done which helped alot but they still shake . I don't see any emails either ? is it a old email or new ?
@chrisragan3189
@chrisragan3189 7 жыл бұрын
yes I bought wheels , tires , lug nuts and tpms all mounted and Ballanced from y'all last year for over 3k . they look awesome but shake enough to make your truck seem like a wobbly pile of crap with cheap tires but I chose the more pricey tires in hopes that it would ride good and not just be a parking lot queen but go off-road and have some fun . they are showing Ballanced every time you spin them but they are out of round and cause it to shake . I can bolt the OE wheels on and it's smooth as silk . I checked rims and they are straight but tires are out of round . they Silverado that is in this video seems to have no shake at all even needing alighn and mines alighned . also he looks like he has -44 offset so that shouldn't be the issue .
